Welcome
....to the homepage of The Movies On-Air, an internet radio station devoted to the online community of TMUnderground. If you want to know what we're about, one of the best places to start is to download one of our archived shows. Or if you're here during one of our live shows (check the calendar), feel free to tune in and listen.
News
Stream link changes
As you can see...

at the right, we've moved to the new streaming - we're now streaming off our own server, which should eliminate many of the problems we've had with dropped streams, etc. (while probably giving us more problems as yet unknown...but hey, it's working now!)

You can also use an MP3 player like winamp, windows media player, or quicktime to listen to the streams - which should eliminate connection problems for those who've had them in the past.

The TMOA Radio toolbar is NOT currently working - I need to play with it some, and point it to the new servers, which I've as yet been unable to do successfully. I will continue to work on that issue.

The TMO Community Mix is complete!
News

Dr Z mix aired, for the first time, on August 3rd during the Roger and Ken Show.

This two-minute and thirty second mix involved nineteen people having some fun, being creative and sharing their talents.

The story woven into the tune revolves around Doctor Hisname Ispooh (pronounced Isp-ooh), an East-Indian subordinate to Chancellor Jeffery Zombinie (pronounced Zom-bow-nay).

Ispooh, wonderfully played by Sparky1512, shows his frustration with all the attention Dr Z seems to get from patients that can't quite get Dr Z's name right or Ispooh's and the ladies that swoon just thinking of Dr Z.

Two and a half minutes of fun over an up-beat tune that will have you guessing - who's voice was that?

The cast members, in alphabetical order:

Dulci - Ellis - Elbowlow - Ethanrunt - FrostyFrost09 - Goofparade - Ken - TheMGMkid1 - Maiden China - Mike DeBoing - Pookashells - Raceman - Roger - SgPorsche - Sisch - SnakeEater42 - Sparky1512 - TPK - and - the original tune "Endless handbag" was created by LHM and obtained from Newgrounds.com

Very special thanks goes to Ken for his airing the piece and graciousness in hosting the promo's and links that made it easy for people to send their files. And, Sparky, for his creative support and his charmingly spoofed Ispooh.

You can request your personal copy of Dr Z's Mixer after the official airing and download a printable CD label here:

Please feel free to leave comments as well.

Update! All systems functioning!
NewsThe site has been moved to the new host. Shows are up to date. Flash chat is working. Barring some unfortunate problem, you can expect the next bit of news here in...oh, six months or more....

Actually we may go through a site redesign when I'm on vacation the last week of May - the only thing that frightens me is having to put information on the hundreds of uploads if I switch to another Content Management System - I'm still exploring options.

Roger Thong Competition 2008
MoviesApril means....

The Annual Roger Thong Movie Competition!

More details and other fun stuff will be coming in the official contest thread on the TMO forums, but the rules are simple:

  • The movie can be any genre
  • The movie can be any length
  • The movie can have VOs or subtitles
  • The movie must be uploaded to TMO, and posted in the official contest thread when I send Roger the details - this is one TMOA project that he refuses to take the initiative on.
  • Most importantly: The movie must feature one or more major characters wearing the Roger Thong, or the thong must figure as the central part of the plot.
The contest runs to the 11th of May, when we will select a winner and award him or her a special, one-of-a-kind commemorative Roger Thong (picture coming soon) or another prize of his or her choosing. Second and third place will get other stuff.

On the right, you see a menu item called Roger Thong competition 2008 - this directory contains male and female versions of the Roger Thong, as well as starmakers of Roger and myself for those who wish to humiliate us in your movies. This is not mandatory. You need neither Roger or myself in your movie to submit and win.

More info in the next few days and in the official contest thread.

TMOA Sunday - 16th March 2008 - Alternatives to The Movies
On Sunday, 16th March, 2008, the Roger and Ken Show goes where no R&K Show has gone before - into the world of alternatives to our favorite moviemaking tool, The Movies!

Does this mean that TMOA is giving up on The Movies? Absolutely not. We are, after all, The Movies On-Air. However, there are a good number of serious moviemakers on TMO, and for many of them, the frustrations of using The Movies to make their films is growing. Some have already moved on to different pastures (I won't say greener pastures, because every piece of software has it's own quirks, it's own difficulties and frustrations, and what you end up with when you finish making your movie may not be what you want) - others will stick with The Movies till the final bell tolls. And we are not advocating that TMOers abandon the software that has produced the amazing films we've all seen. But there is other software out there, and we thought it would be interesting to talk about it on the show this Sunday.

We could, of course, have brought in PR flacks from the companies that make these other programs, but that didn't seem like a way of getting a balanced view. So we'll be bringing in two former community members who are working with other software to hear their take on their chosen software.

Capemedia - Many of you remember Cape from his Last Dragon series in the dawn of TMO, or his feature length, The Disciple , all done with The Movies. Or maybe you remember the last time Cape and his wife were on the air when we were having so much fun with the interview that we kept them for the whole show. Cape moved over to using iClone about a year or so ago, initially to use in combination with The Movies to make Disciples: The Dark War. As he's gotten more into iClone, I believe he plans to do the whole movie using iClone. He's also released a short film called The Sword Dance , which really shows what can be done with iClone in the hands of a talented director. Tomorrow, Cape's topic will be iClone, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Steelblade_1 - Steel's claim to fame on TMO has been his fine series Shadowchildren, none of which have been released directly on TMO due to problems he has with the terms of use. Around a year ago, Steel and his wife, the lovely Terakitty, moved to Moviestorm for their moviemaking. He's been working with the software for about a year now, since the beta, and he hopes to have a special Shadowchildren promo, done in Moviestorm, available for us by showtime so people can get a look at what can be done with the software. We've had him and Tera on the show before, they're fun guests, and we're looking forward to talking to them again. Tomorrow, Steel's topic will be Moviestorm, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

We would have liked to have had somebody in to talk about Antics3d , the third major moviemaking package out there, but haven't seen any ex-TMOers in their community we could reel in. I've played with it a bit, watched some movies made with it, and hopefully can give at least a cursory overview of the software. They also have a free basic edition, and lots of free content available, so you should definitely give it a look and see what you can do with it (btw, if anyone in listener-land has experience with the software, they're welcome to come in and give us all the lowdown).

And of course, we'll have all the other stuff that you know and love (and if you don't love everything, please, keep it to yourself....we have fragile egos and do not react well to criticism....Roger might crack!) - a very special birthday, announcements, Rednecks Massacre Cinema, and much much more. (Note: For those waiting for the final results and coronation of the Ultimate TMOer, that has been delayed till next Sunday - rposhard has a dress rehersal tomorrow for Macbeth, and apparently they want to make sure King Duncan's off-stage death is picture perfect - so he'll be in next Sunday for the exciting conclusion of this years Ultimate TMOer)

The show begins at 2 pm Eastern, 6 pm in the UK, 7 pm in Europe, and the middle of the night in Australia (yeah, that pesky clock change thing hasn't reached foreign shores just yet). To listen, look to the right and select one of the 64K streams (broadband) or 32K streams (dial-up or like low quality sound) and like magic, Roger and I will be in your living room, bedroom, or the closet where you hide from mom and dad when you listen to the show.

You can also drop into the TMOA chatroom , ruled with an iron fist in a velvet glove by the multi-talented, yet humble JudyAnn88. Be good and Judy will be good to you. Be bad and Judy will smite you. 'nuff said.

Seeya tomorrow. It should be both interesting and informative.

The Roger Thong Competition 2007
MoviesLook to the menu on the right...feast your eyes on the item titled Roger Thong Competition 2007.

A year ago, TMOA ran a little moviemaking contest, based around movies featuring the legendary Roger Thong. It being a year later, it's time for another go around....

Go to the official contest thread on the Lionhead Forums, and check out the discussion, the rules (such as they are), and to get your questions answered.

If you hit the Roger Thong Competition 2007 link on the right, you'll find Starmaker's of Roger and myself, the thong costumes if you need them, pictures of the actual thong you can have delivered to your home if you're a winner, and a couple of offline movies that were entered in last year's competition, including Betral's winning movie.

The contest ends on May 12th - you've got a month to churn out a thongalicious masterpiece...so what are you waiting for?

The Mrs. Miller Contest
In 1997, an American musical icon was taken from us at the age of 90.
Though Mrs. Elva Miller now sings in the heavenly choir, her songs live on in cultural wastelands such as the airwaves of The Movies On-Air, along with the musical stylings of Leonard Nimoy and Mae West. There, listeners can sing along with "Downtown", "Yellow Submarine", "Up, Up and Away" and the immortal "Strangers in the Night".
But now, thanks to Lizard3209, a devotee of all things Miller, you'll have your chance to interview the late Mrs. Miller, through the magic of an open-ended interview. And in the process, you'll receive both the acclaim on fellow listeners, and possibly win some TMOA swag.

The people have spoken!
MembersNot a lot of them, but those who were interested in casting their vote have overwhelmingly voted against FlashChat - or they don't care as long as they have some kind of chat....

Anyway, the X7 chat will become the new official TMOA chat, and hopefully everyone will be happy.

If not, I don't want to hear it.

TMOA Official Chat Poll
MembersBecause some people have had trouble using the Flashchat that we've been running over at the XTM, we've decided to explore some other options.

One of the better one we've come across is X7 Chat - it doesn't use Flash, so it wouldn't add another process to overburdened machines, and it seems to be fairly full-featured, for both users and admins.

But it's you, the listener's chat (we're just the featured entertainment), you folks should decide which one you like better. So there's a poll at the lower right (visible only to registered people on the site) which gives you the choice of continuing to use Flashchat, switching to the X7 chat, or a neutral, all the same to me vote.

To check them out, either go here for the Flashchat (or whatever link you usually use if you're registered) or here for the X7 Chat. Unfortunately there's no way to transfer the registration info from Flashchat to X7, since the database user tables are encrypted, so you would have to register again for the X7 chat (easy enough - you don't even have to click a link in the email it sends) - or with X7 you can just type a username and login with no password to check it out (which is fine, unless next time somebody steals your username and pretends to be you).

We'll keep the poll open till the end of the week, then add up the votes, and decide which way we're gonna go.

Thanks.
