Anybody seen it or heard anything about it? It's the newest film directed by Danny Boyle (of 28 Days Later and Sunshine fame), but I'm a bit foggy on the actual plot of the film, though it does sound very original and unique. Something about a Mumbai orphan and a game show. I'm drooling over the possibility of seeing it and I'm not sure why. My local paper has hailed it as the best film of '08 and it's up for a few Oscars I hear. Anyone else know much about it? If I get to see it I'll let you guys know how it is.

I've seen it. A good, fairy-tale-esque romance but for me fell a bit flat in the end. Actually quite amazing for a good 110 minutes then just a bit bleh and conventional. Very well made film, though. Damn well made.

Alright, I convinced my mom to go see it today and just got back. Really impressed by the film and the acting as well. I was amazed by a lot of the shots of the slums and how happy the kids were living there. To me the film reminded me a bit of Forrest Gump but with in a poorer setting. I did like how all the flashbacks tied into the answers. My favorite part was probably when the kids were thrown off the train and when they got back up they were teenagers. Very neat transition. Luckily mom liked it too, except for a few nasty images near the beginning. I would definitely recommend it.
9.5/10

I have many intentions of catching this soon (probably on dvd when its released) as Ive heard many nice things about it and I like an uplifting film when I can get it. Also a fan of the culture of India. Ive read its something of a sham (and a shame) that it recieved an R rating. So it goes.
Another really good flick about kids in the slums that you might check out Raven is City of God (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_God_(film)). All about gangs in the slums of Rio but it manages to be pretty uplifting and interesting and is very well made. Hip and well worth a look.

One of ma' favorite Danny Boyle films so far! Amazing direction. I'm not sure why it would get an R rating though.

The violence was far too intense in the scenes to warrant anything less, but it's Boyle, it's what he seems to do.
It was Boyle's best, but it's not as good as some films in the last year.

The violence didn't bother me, there was hardly any at all anyway. The film was good, but is severely overrated. It had a good sum of cheesy and out of place bits of dialogue that really ruined parts for me, like the ending.

This may sound a bit stupid but can anyone tell me what an R-rating is in Britain?

R's can range from 12a (Terminator 3, Casanova) to 18 (Saw) but most hang in the 15-18 region.
