Go on then ... who was the best Batman?
West was the original - he did well with some crappy lines, and I always loved his "parental advice" moments with Robin.
Keaton - I thought he played the confusion between Wayne and Batman pretty well
Kilmer - I thought he was Arnie in a Batsuit. But maybe it was just the script that was lifeless.
Bale - very good, especially as Wayne, but as Batman some sound engineer should be shot, they doctored his voice so that it was like a Dalek after a night out!
I'm going for Keaton.
Keaton - Bale would have won had it not been for, as you mentioned, his ridiculous Batman voice. Physically he is much more suited to Bruce Wayne/Batman than any of the other actors, but jeez, that voice was just silly!

Hehe... I love that Clooney isn't even on the list. :D
For me it's Keaton... No contest.
Bale played the part well, but Keaton really carried the part in a troubled, underacted kind of way.
I especially loved the cuts to him sitting as Bruce Wayne in the bat cave, lost in his own thoughts.

Ok, West was just, in a comedic sense, brilliant. To see an overweight grown man run around in what looked like pyjamas and a kiddies' mask and cape was just priceless. I loved the "remember Robin, never smoke" moments as well. Simply genius. However, if I think of it in an acting sense, he is a bit of a joke.
Never been a fan of Val Kilmer and for me he was truly awful as Batman. I'll go no further than that.
Keaton I thought was a good Batman, and one of the better actors. It's just the fact that Bruce Wayne is supposed to be a sort of young, charming millionaire who is in half decent shape, and Michael Keaton just doesn't fit that bill. Although he played the part very well, he just didn't have the right image for me.
So that leaves Christian Bale as my favourite Batman. I think he is the best actor ever cast as Batman, he brings to life Batman's darker side realistically and he fits all three characters he has to play perfectly. Now you're wondering why I said 3 parts and not two (Batman and Bruce Wayne) but I think in the new generation of Batman, Bale and Nolan have for the first time portrayed the 3 sides of Batman: Bruce Wayne the celebrity playboy, The 'real' Bruce Wayne (who has darker and more disturbed thoughts and feelings) and Batman (who is his release for those feelings). Despite the slight voice hitch in The Dark Knight (Batman Begins wasn't too bad and anyway there was a decent explanation for the voice, ie. to conceal his identity), Bale plays each of these parts convincingly and effectively, and that is the reason he is my favourite Batman.
:batman: NANA NANA NANA NANA BAT-MAN!!!
love that song...

Keaton the best batman, Bale comes close.
If I could I would vote for both Keaton and Bale, but I can't, so Keaton it is. I really like him. Especially in Batman Returns. He actually kill people which is actually very true to the original comic book in which he would often kill criminals.
I actually don't think Kilmer was a bad Batman. It was just a bad movie unfortunately. Cloney was a joke like the whole movie was a joke. A Batman with grey hair? Honestly what's next? Richard Geere?
I don't mind Bale's voice. But it's more discrete in Batman Begins.
I won't really coment on Adam West.
Kevin Conroy from Batman TAS was also an inredible Batman, just as the show was incredible.

Bale. No doubt.
As Bruce, his playful antics with Alfred and playboy persona are spot on to the comic.
As Batman in Batman Begins, when he had Flass hanging upside down and very intensely says "Swear to me!" THAT is as close as it gets to the comic book look and feel of Batman to me.
Not to mention Bale physically matches more true to Batman than Keaton. Sorry Mr. Mom, still love ya.

Oh crap! Did I miss one?
Well - nobody else has mentioned him, so some things are better left unsaid!
(I thought he was Robin anyway - who got that gig?)

Actually, you missed at least one other Batman, but I'm going back to the old Saturday Matinees of old (I have the series on my shelf, though damned if I can find it now!)

Some of us mentioned Clooney. Crappy bastard. Chris O'donnell was Robin in Batman Forever and in Batman and Robin.

I liked Keaton. He played the best Batman. I couldn't understand the last guy because he sounded like a pit bull or something. LOL :2guns:

I didn't like keaton's face, his acting was good, but in the suit his checks were way to chubby, Bale hands down for me, he captures the character so well.

I recently watched The Dark Knight again and I think the new mask was what changed Bale's voice. With the first mask he could just speak normally but with a slight growl but the second one seemed a bit tight, not allowing him to breath freely and causing him to mispronounce words fairly frequently
(Btw who voted for Val Kilmer? )

Erm, Bat Dance anybody?
Screw Adam West, Caesar Romero and that oh so cruddy show.:single fuck:
Theory: In Bale's defense he probably couldn't hear himself speaking. The Batman masks are always impossible to hear through and the new one is even tighter around his head than the one he used for BB and the first half hour of TDK. And what does people do, when they can't hear? They speak louder in order to hear themselves, which will change your voice.

I like the crummy old version.
I know it was not my generation, but I think corney stuff is great to see.
West got my vote.
