Is it possible to edit out the music in a song so that I have just the vocals to work with? I want to get a song lip synched in The Movies. I know I could just sing along but if there's an easy way to edit out the instrumentals that would sure be dandy.

There are programs that will mostly remove the vocals for karaoke fun, but I've not seen anything that will remove the music and leave the vocals - a quick search indicates that it's nearly impossible, without a buttload of processing and filtering and equalization monkeying and even then it doesn't work well.

Time to warm up the pipes, Miss Dulci...

Alright, but I suggest you close your windows!

you cancel out the music from a track you'd need an original recording wav..not mp3... perhaps off of the original cd.... then you'd have to locate the instrumental track. sometimes you can find them on singles as bonus tracks... then you have to invert the instrumental track on top of the original with vocal..effectively cancelling the instrumental part...

simple :)

why dont you just sing the vocals and use that as the lip sync track and then remove it later?

The "I could just sing along" option sounds like the easiest way of getting it lipsynched. Is the song by somebody you could contact who could maybe just send you the vocal track on its own?

I'm trying to do the sing the vocals part - I was just feeling a little lazy last night & annoyed that I wasn't getting it just right and thought - maybe there's this super simple way I don't know about! Alas.

There is no simple way you need a studio music mixing board and that will cost you big bucks.
So your better off singing it.
