View Full Version : How do you feel posting here?

On the Lionhead Forums we've been proud of being TMOers, we always wanted to be different from the OT people and probably never posted in "their" part of the forums. Now there's this OT section here and the former TMOers use it like it's been normal all the time.
So I'm wondering:
How does it feel for you, posting in an OT section?
Is there any difference at all?
Or did you maybe regret posting here?
:huh::wacko::w00t:

I always posted in OT now and then, I never saw why they were so seperated in the first place lol.
Still, all is well so far :)

Strange, I nearly posted a very similar thread today.

I posted perhaps twice in OT but found it useless as I didnt know those people and didnt particularly enjoy the discussions as I never felt like I fit in. Here I know most of the posters (more or less) and the people that I will normally avoid havent made a grand entrance (yet) so Im having fun conversing. And finally, it may be me but there also seems a lack of the "I'm better/more clever than you" kinda feeling I got from OT. But like I said, thats probably just me.

I enjoy chatting about things that are not necessarily tied to making movies (and yet most things are in my little brain). It has a sitting around in a bar and chatting vibe to for me, especially when I have a beer in hand after Kid Millions has gone to bed.

Im starting to feel like Im posting far to much but for the time being Ill just enjoy it.

I think the "random chatter" here bears no resemblance to the OT of which you speak.

Here, we're all in the same boat as it were, so a place for rambling (difficult in a boat, but there's no pedantic git going to point that out here... oh, wait) is not only welcome, but essential.

At the moment, and long may it continue, we're all known to each other here, and there isn't that pre-graduate nonsense that decries topics.

Random can mean many things: if it's dull, it dies. Simple really.

I can't comment on TMO's OT forums 'cause I never visited there. But I like the fact that on TMUnderground a conversation could go off at any tangent without wouldbe-moderators jumping in every two seconds saying "That's off topic! That's off-topic!" If somebody starts a thread and says from the start "Please only make posts in here about this subject" then that's totally fair enough, but I think that, other than that, it's healthy to allow the tangents to happen up to a point. Of course, it could end in chaos if you get nutjobs coming in and disrailing threads. But I think everybody here is sensible enough to be able to judge for themselves what's appropriate in each section of these forums.

I think the fact that Lionhead needed an OT forum kind of shows how regimented each subforum (eg TMO) was.

Big difference here - no one is sitting and waiting, ready to pounce on any perceived infraction. It's not how we get our jollies.

heheh jollies heh heh.

the random chatter here is just that random chatter. Not OT by any stretch. There is no RP lame bs, none of that, just random chatter that doesnt have its own forum. Its not the cool kid club they think it is on LH. Its just for our little band of merry makers to yip yap about whatever they wanna.

OT t LH and Random chatter forums here is not the same. at all. never will be.

To answer this question: How do you feel posting here?

I feel violated...

At least here, in these OT forums, I won't have to worry if I'm intellectual enough before I chip in with my opinion.

Jeez, that was an underhanded comment...haha.

I like posting here (1st day and about 5 posts) for me Tmo got old, I think more because starting afansite when a game is at its start then seeing it through its peek and now this, You're always going to get some heat.

It was more the nature of advertising if you say with 'more quality content than any other' then the 'any others' will naturally resent that, that wasnt 'me' saying it more the hyperbole of advertising rubs people the wrong way.

I disliked the treatment of people on tmo especially newcomers who Ive always been keen to help get on (That genuinely is the reason i set up skinshack originally)

so here feels a whole lot freer, I can breathe and have a well reasonsed point posted without fanboys attacking me.

I hope TMU stays true to the ethos of the orginal days of TMO as they were fun, especially as I had a film in the charts lol :P back then!

...newcomers who Ive always been keen to help get on (That genuinely is the reason i set up skinshack originally)

Great reason to start a site. I see that most new people just want to be involved, make a couple of friends, enjoy the community and learn to make good films.

I must say TMO was pretty friendly to me when I joined it Dec of 07. There were people helping me right off. I didn't even have a studio when I joined.

Here, I see the potential for the same because most of the people that befriended me there are here. This forum has one big advantage that I see right off. The team of moderators are relaxed, no show of power trips, no tight rules other than respecting others. Nothing against TMO's modds, but TMO's different, it has to be. Here it's us, the film makers, that help Ken.

Ken did a wise job in asking the people he did to help him. Why do I know this...lol...I'm a moderator and as goofy as they come.

There will be times when people slip up, I know for a fact that a private pm, not smacking someone down and with a politely written tone will remind the person that they misstepped.

I really like posting here, there's no traps hiding to get you.

I personally see this part of TMU as our OT. Having spent a lot of time in Lionhead's OT I can see a lot of difference.

The is mainly due to the type of people. In OT a lot of the people are computer people, or as some would say "Geeks". They are mostly intelligent, and many of them base what they say on logic. I have had many interesting debates over there, and have learnt a lot.

Here at TMU the people are rather different. Most of the people here are also intelligent, but they are also very creative. This makes a lot of difference to how they look at the world.

For me I like the freedom within this forum. The people here are more like minded to me. So I find posting here a lot more rewarding on a personal level.

Some of the threads I have seen here, would get locked or turn into a flame fest or both over at Lionhead. But here they are a lot of fun. Take several of Dulci's threads. On Lionhead's OT they would be ridiculed and turn into flame fests, but here they are a lot of really great fun. :clown:

I have seen several word association threads attacked in OT in the last few years, with people being reprimanded for starting such threads. As someone in this thread said earlier, if people don't like the thread or get bored with it, then it will die. I much prefer this approach over the the smack in the face version. When all is said and done, there is nothing wrong with having fun! :stuart:

Did I mention fun? ;)

My "fun" threads are like my movies - either you love em or think I've lost my mind & wonder what on earth everyone else sees in em. :stuart:

I have to say I agree here. Don't get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a good, healthy and intelligent debate. I for one love to read other people's points of view, opinions. Whether they coincide with my own point of view is irrelevant.

But, sometimes, it's good to read something lighthearted, something throwaway. It's just a way of relaxing. Nothing more, nothing less. I suppose the best thing about them is that they are all-inclusive and community centric.

Yeah, I agree Howwie. :P Loads of TMOers post in OT at LH.
But yes, this is nothing like those forums. You don't have bloody Prof (Yes, I know he's a nice guy in person Roger. :P ) and all his wannabe's. Which I must say is definitely a good thing. Of course, you're not going to get people who you don't know and who play bloody Fable posting about their girlfriends and those 'hilarious' youtube videos they keep finding, a million times day.

Lame RP eh? Fair enough.

Now all I need is my own PC so I can get back to watching movies like the old days.
