Good morning all!

So some things that seem on the front of everybody's mind as of late is outside editing. I know its on mine, as I used to make my living back in the day as an Editor.

I digress.

Heres why I started this thread. Wanted to make light of some new things that many may not have thought of.

With outside editing, now people can work together on the same film. This is a good thing for sure, as some people who have mastered "Composite" work like WeirdScience and others who have shown their prowess at post like MB6.

So this thread is mainly for people to discuss the process and get a feel for who knows what. What research have others done, what is it you really need to know, what is a cost effective set up etc etc.

Lets hope that those in the know also join in.

Just think, now with unlimited options, the films we make will really take a new direction and this is, to me at least, the best thing ever.

I didn't even think of that... That certainly would be a cool option to pursue!

I'm all for it... :)

Out side editing is going to open up new doorways to movie making.
I never thought of that also Jase180.

Its a very cool thing to look forward too. A director shoots a film, works with a person who has gotten really great at doing say FX, they work together and create something..its really a way to bond the process to many people.

Also, think about this, with compositing, the imagination will have no limits..you can do fantastic space scenes or create entire worlds etc. boundless options.

I love the idea - in concept. Call me a crazy bitch, but when it comes to directing and effects - I want to do it all by myself. Want want want want want (yeah, I feel that strongly). :001_rolleyes:

I don't think I would ever hand my movie out to be cut by someone else... and I want to learn how to make those cool effects myself! Never mind that I will never be as good at that as Michael B. for example - it's the way there that's so enticing to me.... :001_smile: Because of that, it would be much more interesting for me to watch a special effects wizard at work... see some of the nifty tricks, learn how to do them and give them a touch of my own.

Having said that, I'm more than willing to share what I already know about outside editing and help with sound design where I can!

Yeah, this is a side of collaborating that interests me.

One bug with the Mac port of The Movies is that apparently the lip-synch doesn't work, and neither do overlays, so I had thought about maybe collaborating with somebody else at some point in the future - maybe by writing a script and then later on getting involved in the editing process.

The beauty of this kind of collaboration is that two or more different directors can film footage and then edit it all together in an outside editor.

Three or four months ago when I was knee deep in O the Ocean I had a dream that TMO was actually a peach pit-esque type of place with computers at the booths where we all went to work on our movies and talk about movies. We all collaborated and I actually dreamed that Jase came in and unfurled a Sola Fide poster and hung it on the wall as promotion and then sat around showing everyone how some of the shots were done. Unfortunately, it didnt get more specific than this (such as perhaps Norrie playing the Dylan role and Ken playing the Nate role.). Anyway, Im crapping you negative...I dreamed it. and now collaboration doesnt have to be nearly as creepy as all that. Huzah!
