View Full Version : The Other Machinima Thread

I thought it'd be an idea to have a thread where we can post links to any non-TM machinima that seems interesting. These aren't the best three I've seen over the months but I seem to have lost the links I'd saved in a folder.
Title: When We Two Parted
Platform: MovieStorm
By: Hugh Hancock
Hugh Hancock apparently made up the term "machinima" in the late '90s as part of the Edinburgh-based "Strange Company". It's a video for a Lord Byron poem. He's obviously messed around a bit in outside editing to change the generic MovieStorm look:
http://www.machinima.com/film/view&id=25927
***
Title: Bill Et John ep 2
Platform: Lock On Modern Air Comba
This is similar in its humour to the Reds vs Blues series but it's French and is pretty inventive. Apparently made using "Lock On Modern Air Combat (with the addon Flaming Cliffs)", whatever that is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvOfZSn6qAk
***
Title: "Anna"
Platform: Quake
I just found this today. It's about the life of a seed. It's kind of cutesy but I think it tells its story pretty well, and seems to make good use of the Quake platform:

Capemedia's The Sword Dance:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ib2SUE59Grw
Cape was a fine TMO filmmaker, and moved on to iClone - his next big project is The Forgotten Children (promo video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfuVRAR5kZY) and I've seen a small chunk of it as well (I play a senator in it).
His projects are on hold while he remodels his house and puts in a big music studio (he's also a professional musician), but I'm really looking forward to what he comes up with in the future.
And I'm hoping that he will be my iClone sensei ;)

Besides acting in Biggstrek's "The Terrible Old Man", Zuckerman has been producing some nice shorts with Moviestorm and in some cases City of Heroes.

One of my faves is War of the Servers (http://video.google.co.uk/videosearch?q=war+of+the+servers+2&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&sa=X&oi=video_result_group&resnum=5&ct=title#q=war%20of%20the%20servers&emb=0), filmed in Half Life using GMod; it's no lightweight, mind (weighs in at over 100 mins!), but it's an interesting retelling of War of the Worlds, using Jeff Wayne's soundtrack. Check it out if you haven't already seen it.

Yeah, when we had Ingrid on the air...hmmm, more than two years ago - 10-29-06 (http://www.tmoaradio.com/infusions/fs_downloads/fsdownloads.php?action=view&folder_id=1&subfolder=/TMOA%20Show%20Archives/The%20Roger%20and%20Ken%20Show/036-29th%20October%202006/)....The Days After was one of the things we talked about with her (that was the show Festus set up that Overman (Phil Rice) was supposed to be on as well - he had problems and never made it.)
After we get through December and the holiday shows, we're hoping to get Ricky and Phil in sometime in January (and not during the show host swap weekend)

Hi,
Just wanted to add my thoughts to this thread. I class Machinma as anything made on a computer regardless of the software engine, 3d, 2d, Flash etc, so if these qualify you really need to check these out.
First check out the prologue, then watch all parts.
http://www.deletionquality.net/movie/oscar/prolouge
The entire Castle series is just amazing but Castle 3 is my favourite. By the way "Castle Repercussions" is out 22 December 2008 and Oscar Johansson has been working on it for 2 years.
This next piece is pure Machinma and impressed me so much I download the HD version to my computer to study.

Yeah, good flick, and nicely shows off the WII pack they just released - and I agree, I like the music - I think we kind of got it in our heads that in-game music in TM was weak and sucky - I know Warlord spent some time with The Movies, and let's face it, the music really isn't that bad - only overused in 10,000 TM movies - in time, we will appreciate it.

Mainly want to say THANKS for all the comments on The Sniper. Coming from this group they are very much appreciated as I was somewhat concerned to post that movie into a group this talented. My friend Susi O'Neill was the project coordinator on this. It's based on a poem about knife crime by Carol Ann Duffy, Britain's new Poet Laureate (who's getting a lot of attention cause she's the first woman, first Scot and first openly gay person to be Poet Laureate). The "machinima consultant" on it, Hugh Hancock, co-wrote that "Machinima for Dummies" book and is apparently the dood who coined the term "machinima" back in the day:

If you had the chance, would you "Stop, Rewind"?
hehe, I should promo stuff.
Anyway, here's a new Gary's Mod machinima by Harrison "Nefarious One" Heller of Amorphous Blob productions.
I voice the main character in the movie, so I'm biased when I say I think it's awesome, but I think you guys would like it too.

That was quite a production. Great story and... of course... great voice acting.
