Seeing as I have 4 of the parts up now, I thought it was probably time I did one of these, for those who are interested :) (especially as I have been forced into a break from my gruelling schedule by the missus not being well and forcing me into doing her share of the household chores as well as mine... bah ( :winkiss: dear wifey :)))
Production is steaming along; part 4 is almost ready to be upped (hopefully I can finish post this afternoon and have it uploaded by this evening); slightly different angle of the story in this installment, as we cut to Earth and see the political effects of the recent events; kind of the Odyssey version of the West Wing :p
Odyssey: Pilot (SE1E00) - Act 4
As events unfurl light years away that will shake the political foundations of the Alliance, USA President Ellen Mckinley starts to see some of the effects, as Earth is host to a galactic conference that could reshape the political landscape of the galaxy for ever...
************************************************** ************************************
Production Stills:
Nothing fancy; just a couple of shots from the storyboard to whet your appetites, perhaps...

Part 5 is just behind this one, ready to go into the cutting suite (shot "back-to-back" originally, but the raw footage came out at over 25 mins in length and my PC didn't like it much; ended up having to do some "creative editing" via the in-game movie editor in order to cut it into 2 chunks for export, then piece the two episodes back together again once I got the damned things out!)
The Canis make their first appearance in this episode (after being mentioned several times already); sadly, as my modding abilities suck the big one (:helpsmilie:), I haven't got a decent set of wolf-like heads to use for them, so have had to stick to what's the closest from the game (same with my pitiful attempts at modelling the Cai-Tar cat-heads/faces as makeup; it'll do for now, but will want to go back and amend it at some point).
Any road, enjoy the current episode and this (and part 5) will hopefully be up in the next day or so... weather permitting

Awesome news Killian , i have been a big fan since day 1 and cannot wait for the next big step in the series

Odyssey fans, the wait is over; Act 4 is now up on the site...
Odyssey Pilot: Act Four (http://www.tmunderground.com/watch/851b0016442ab604b048/Odyssey-SE1E00---Act-Four)
Preliminary work has been completed on Act 5; with a bit of time and a following wind, I might be able to
get it completed for tommorrow evening (making the most of a week off work to indulge myself completely in my passion; gotta love it :))
And so, to Part 5... hopefully, the pilot will be completed in another 2-3 acts and the series all set up to follow. I have a call out for the mods I need; in the interim I might have another crack at doing them myself (though with my ham-fisted attempts and lack of time in general, it might be a while before I manage to get things "just-so" enough to pass muster ), but that comes secondary to finishing the first part of the Odyssey story.
Chris and Nero; thank you for the encouragement :thumbup1:. I hope you, and any other closet fan out there, enjoy the new episode. As always, feedback (both postive and negative, so long as both are constructive), is appreciated.
(Bah; just spotted a typo in the subs; buggeration :()

Great episode Killian you put a lot of work in it.
If you ever need overlays let me now.
everconsidered VOs? I hate subtitles as dialogue.
Killian
08-26-2008, 07:12 AM
The plan is (was) to get the initial releases out of the way and go with VOs for the series proper once it was "established"; I might have a crack at doing the last one or two parts myself, (once I can get my damned mike to work :(; another reason there haven't been any VOs up until now) then make a casting call.
I'm not a big fan of subs myself (I have to cut a lot of the character and dialogue down to get the gist of the plot across, which is a pain), but as mentioned I wanted to get the first few done to show any potentially interested parties what the concept of the "show" was about and let people get a feel for whether they would be interested in collaberating with me on it, before throwing the door open for auditions.
Plus, I tend to steamroller along once I get cracking on a project and to give any decent artist a chance to provide a good performance, you can't rush them :)
Good point raised, though, and rest assured it has been taken aboard.
What i have done for enigma was write the whole season's scripts, send them to the VO actors and then i can proceed at my own pace.
Killian

...d'oh! I never thought of doing it that way (smacks own head in stupidity)...:34:...probably as the pilot was all laid down and ready to go... well, once that's out of the way, filming will slow down a bit as I take each episode on individually.
Most of the series is scraps of paper laying about and stuff floating around in my head at the moment, with only partial scenes laid out.
Once I sit down and lay it all down properly, I should be able to proceed at a slightly less frenetic pace and get everything laid down properly for the ongoing episodes.
Good advice tho (feel a bit silly I didn't think of that myself :blushing:)

...for those following the pilot, Act Five is completed and due for upping sometime tonight; there will be a fair pause before Act 6 (due to the sheer size and amount of effects it will need)...
Act 6 is slated as the Pilot Finale; once that is out of the way, I will be beavering away at some shorts and the script for the series itself... with no more crappy subtitles (which should please everyone... including me!)

Thanks.

The Future of Odyssey
With Act 5 recently posted and Act 6 undergoing major reshooting work (due to a hard drive failure that took with it the filmed sections I’d already created… goddamn technology:49:), here’s an overview of the current “state of the union” and proposed future planning. All of this is, of course, subject to change at a moment’s notice :001_tt2:.
Current Work:
Act 6 is underway; no estimate yet on how long ‘til it’s completed (the phrase “when it’s done, it’s done” springs to mind…). Planning is also underway for a revamp of the “look” of the show (new props, costumes, etc) for when it goes to “series”.
Future Planning:
Slightly in advance of work on the series proper, I’ll be asking for VO artists to step forward to take on the roles of the various cast members (this will be ongoing “work”, so anyone who wishes to voice a character will need to be aware that they are looking at “the long haul” if they wish to audition for parts (though of course there will be guest slots, etc available)). More information on what, when and how will be posted nearer the time.
Am working on an overview and “series bible” of the show, outlining the main and recurring characters, some history, etc, which will be available for those who wish to contribute (mainly as an aid to the VO artists, but also as an concept document for anyone who wishes to contribute mods or other stuff to the show); hopefully this will allow potential cast members to get a good overview and feel for the characters and setting in advance of voicing them.
Anyone who has any suggestions, comments or wants to contribute, please do feel free to contact me via PM (or e-mail).
In the interim, special thanks to those of you who have watched and enjoyed the pilot episode acts (despite it’s shortcomings), the constructive and patient comments left by many (kind of you to flatter an old man ), the modders whose hard work made it possible to begin with (too many to list here, but you are credited on each act), and last but by no means least, the inspiring sci-fi series and shorts created by the likes of Uber, Chris62, Captain Strider, Guppi, etc… and the “grandaddy of them all” (in the nicest possible way :)), K4.
...now, back to work, Killy... it won't make itself...

I'll be glad to get rid of the subbies... it truncated the dialogue a lot more than I thought it would originally (and, let's be honest, no one likes to have to read them).

ACT SIX PROLOGUE (http://www.tmunderground.com/watch/ec1fa9e0c259de10bf87/Odyssey-SE1E00---Act-Six-%28Prologue%29).
Did away with the subtitles on this one, but be warned:-
1) My Voice acting skills aren't very hot
2) The quality is a bit cack (need a new mike)
Anyway, it's there for your edification...

Second part of the Act Six Prologue should be up later today; it just needs some final tweaks and a special "teaser" section for the remaining parts should be ready as well (if it renders out reasonably small, I'll tag it onto the next up after the credits...)

Just watched the first four of this opera.
Loved them, but taking a break now.
Others are right though; these deserve VOs. I hold my self in no great esteem, but if you ever need a miserable Scottish bastard (and what Sci-Fi doesn't), I'd be more than happy to give it a try.
I'm really enjoying them so far mate.

Thank you, gentlebeings; I will definately be getting in touch soon with some parts you might be interested in (no, not body parts... All nationalities are represented in this series, so there's plenty to go around :))
Speaking of the next episode (which we weren't, but it's shameless update time), it should be up for viewing shortly.... for those interested in the ongoing story, it might be an idea to stay tuned after the credits (don't touch that dial!).
I won't say why... but here's a clue...

Well, that's me watched all of them and I, for one, am hooked.
I'm not a huge fan of Sci Fi, but I love a good story arc, and good writing. This is a great Space Opera I think? All the hallmarks so far anyway.
I'm at your command Killian (you even have me thinking of music things. I'll be dammed!)
Bloody marvellous stuff so far. Can't wait till we're all involved.

Glad you enjoyed it, mate :)
I have already started making a few "adjustments" for some of the characters for the upcoming show, as have had some offers of VO's from some seriously talented people (and I'm sure I can slot a Scot in somewhere :tt2:); reasonably large ensemble cast if it works out, so plenty of work for everyone... hoping to get some changes of pace in from all-out action to character pieces, morality plays, comedy, etc, etc.
Once work is complete on the final act, I'll be chucking out requests to those who have already offered their services (ooo-errr missus!), so they will get the pick of the roles (so to speak); am most willing to take aboard any creative input from the artistes involved as the characters grow (they will be voicing them, so no reason why they shouldn't get input into how they develop, after all...).
Am stoked to get cracking, to be honest, and glad people seemed to have warmed to the series. Now, if only I could write faster and more coherently....
Big, huge ginormous (is that a word?) thanks to Uber for the mods, which will make a huge difference to the visual distinctiveness of the series... cheers, matey :thumbup1:
i'm sober now..... what happened?

(Major thanks to Uber for his moment of drunkeness which resulted in the new Alliance starfighters ).
Due to the effects work needed, am having to split the initial installments into smaller chunks to get the greenscreen shots I need out of the game, and splice the lot back together again in Magix when the sfx have been added in.
Simply due to size and running time, it's likely that I'll have to split the final part into at least 2 pieces, as there's a lot to wrap up... and a lot to leave dangling for the follow on :).
Stay tuned for further updates as the time for the finale approaches...
some damn nice screenies. Maybe tweak the badges on the fighters, low viz, grey.

Thank you all for the kind words and support :blushing:; I hope you have enjoyed the episodes so far, and are looking forward to the upcoming finale…
Which brings me neatly to (nice segue :tt2:)…
:excl:CASTING CALL!:excl:
Yes, I’m almost to the point where the lines for the finale are ready (don’t want to give out a part finished product, so am gauging interest initially to see what roles can be filled). Due to a file corruption issue, I have had to redo the script from scratch; it’s running at around 20 pages of mostly dialogue at the moment, and isn’t finished by a fair way yet (so this will be quite an intensive undertaking from anyone involved).
I know I have had a few expressions of interest from some of you talented people, but am officially now looking to fill some key parts (there are a few one or two liner “bit parts” scattered about, as well, but they are background characters and not so important).
The main stipulations I have for the parts in question:
:45: Someone who is prepared to look at a long-term commitment to voicing the character and developing them as the series continues;
:45: Is prepared (and indeed wants) to give input into the development and growth of the character through the upcoming series;
:45: Is enthusiastic about coming aboard;
:45: Can produce the goods at a relatively speedy pace (not in a matter of hours, of course, but within a few days or so of being sent the script);
And last, but my no means least….
:45: Is prepared to work with a noob doing their first major project alongside some very talented artists.
“Audition” wise, I have a couple of parts I have specific people in mind for, if they fancy doing them, so will hang fire on an “open call” until or unless I can’t fill the major roles from my “wish list”.
There are currently 5 major male character roles (all of which will be major characters or series recurring roles), 2-3 major female roles (at least 2 of which will be major characters and the third potentially recurring), 2 minor male roles (at least one of which will be recurring) and various male and female background roles (which, if people are agreeable, can be “divvied up” amongst the main artists, if they don’t mind pulling dual duty).
For the major roles, I can get away with 2 female artists, if one doesn’t mind “doubling up” for the 3rd role; males I could potentially get away with 3 male artists, again if they don’t mind doubling up on some of the recurring roles); if there is enough interest from people, I can dish out the additional roles if necessary.
There are at least two further major characters (1 male, 1 female) which are not appearing in the pilot, but will be in the series; I’ll tackle the actors for them nearer the time!
So, what’s the score with getting the roles? Simple; PM me your interest (either here via the boards, thru the TMU movie pages, Skype, MSN or e-mail), and I’ll fire off some samples of the script for you to have a look at (as said, I have a coupla people who have already expressed an interest, so they will get “first dibs” on the available parts), as well as some background info, so you can express an interest in which role you’d like to fill. This will probably take a couple of days (in between other things), so please bear with me if I don’t respond straight away. After that, if there are any parts left, I will put out an open call.
Thanks to all of you who have supported Odyssey so far and hopefully will continue to do so; am stoked about the potential future of the “show”, and hope you will enjoy what’s to come as much as I hope to enjoy providing them.
:boat: The journey is just as important as the destination...

Had another script mishap last night and lost 3 hours of retyping after Final Draft crashed on me and the autobackup...didn't...
After the neighbours had been convinced there was no bloody murder being done (:001_tongue:), I did some reshoots on a section of the finale.
Any road, here's a few piccies; a full cast list will be posted later if people are waiting to see what parts are included. As mentioned previously, I'm awaiting a couple of interested parties to get back to me in regard to the main roles (already got one pegged in, I think) and will then throw the others open once I've had responses on those (or not).

Final List for VOs:-
All characters in ITALICS are main characters who will appear in the series as well as in the Finale; I would prefer someone who would be prepared to commit to doing these voices on a long-term basis to voice these characters, if at all possible.
Certain character roles will be offered to specific individuals on a “first refusal” basis, so you may request a specific part, but please don’t be offended if someone else “beats you to the punch” :001_smile:
Underlined characters are FEMALE roles; all others are MALE. There are more “background characters” in Parts 5 and 6 (pretty much have some background VO’s; a couple of others would be nice too). Preferable voice "types" are attached to certain roles, so in the event of more than one person requesting a particular part, that would be the voice type I would prefer.
As previously mentioned, PM me via here or the movie site with your interest and I'll be in touch.

The long slog is over and the final draft has been completed and mailed out to the "first viewers"; some extra "extra" roles appear (most only have 1 or 2 lines, so hoping I can get some "double ups" on them);
HQ COMMS OFFICER
COMMANDER
STATION COMMANDER
CANIS JUNIOR OFFICER
CANIS FLEET CAPTAIN
LIBERAL AIDE
CANIS LEGIONNAIRE
Just the long job of casting the remaining VOs, doing some reshoots, editing in AMM, exporting, editing, exporting, adding SFX, sounds and music, and the final export round and done :)
(Goes for a lie down...)
Special thanks to Uber who thrashed out a simmering idea I had for a story arc with me, that I ended up adding in as a lead in for the series proper... and Kwis for doing his lines in record time :)
Due to the sheer size, number of roles and amount of plot, this is probably going to come out in 2 or 3 sections... we'll see what the final running time is.
So, sit back and await ODYSSEY: THE PILOT FINALE... coming soon only to TMU!

Other than the fact that you'll be digging deep into the C List of voice actors (C not only following A & B, but also standing for caca), I'm always available to bring an excellent movie down to "well done except for some of the performances".
Gimme a holler if you have something for me.

Production Update:-
Part One nearly completed; just need two more VO artists for the parts of Eva/Dixon and Munro to complete the cast for this, and editing can begin.
Part Two is 2/3 shot; still short 3 characters here (as detailed in the VO Request thread).
In the meantime, here's a couple more screenies to fill the rest of this empty space :)

*** PRODUCTION UPDATE 12 OCTOBER 2008 ***
Only 14 and a bit pages of principle photography to do, and the monster is complete!
The final, confirmed cast and role list will be posted once final roles are assigned.
Currently, the cast consists of:-
Biggstrek, Chris62, Dulci, Goofparade, Jase180, JetCityWoman, JosephKw, Kuroken, Kwistufa and Sparky.
Still missing two parts: Munro and Frost (Munro is a "recurring character", Frost is a series main character), due to primary VOs who were unavailable to do the parts (thanks for considering the roles, though, people, especially with your busy schedules :thumbup1:).
Munro is a senior military officer (30-50) and would suit a brusque or authoritarian voice. This part is needed to complete the voice cast for Part One of the finale. 50 lines of dialogue.
Frost is late 20s-30s, Chief Engineer of USS Odyssey; somewhat lighter in tone but very serious when it comes to his work. Frost appears only briefly in the finale (Part Two) and is not required to complete Part One filming; he is, however, a main character in the series and therefore an ongoing role. 13 lines of dialogue.
Audition lines can be found in the VO Request thread, should anyone be interested in having a stab at the role. However, if you can't pull off a mature, authority-filled voice consistently, I will have to pass on you, I'm afraid :)
Awaiting final casting on these two roles, some VOs to be returned and edited in... then exporting of the filmed chunks with initial soundtracks can begin. Once that is completed, I can start stitching them together in Magix and Composite Pro, along with the music, sound effects and visual effects... final overdubs if required and then... tada!
Depending on casting, line returns and barring no technical issues, am aiming for 1-2 November release for Part One... however, this date is subject to change without prior notice and no refunds will be given if you purchase tickets for this date and the premiere slips :001_tt2:.
i'll do munro, if you want.

All going well; first Act is completed, edited and ready... Act Two and Three all but finished (final lines should be in this weekend, all being well), which means initial edit should be complete by Sunday and final "working prints" exported from TM and into Magix.
Barring any unforseen issues or problems, Part One of the finale will be hitting TMU sometime over the Halloween Weekend (not going to say when exactly, as it really depends on how well and how fast the editing goes this next week and presumes everything goes according to plan).
So, a few more screenies to tide you over til release...

Finished my lines for Capt. Ryan tonight... what an epic!
This is the longest single role I've done to date at over 133lines..and some speeches count as 1 line.
