Riley's The Movies Texture Manager

http://downloads.riley-man.com/TheMovies/applications/r3-tm-texmgr-screen07.gif

Following two months of development, I am releasing the first public beta version of the Texture Manager application. This is the first of what is planned to be a full suite of Windows applications.

Feature List

Search your computer's file system, or The Movies content, for image files.
Supports DDS, BMP, TGA, JPG, and PNG file formats.
Batch convert images into DDS format.
Automatically resizes images to the proper DDS size.
Supports conversion to static overlays, animated overlays, or backdrops.
Automatically creates thumbnails.
Optional support for frame rate conversion, and altered numbering, for animated overlays.
Composite new, layered images. Use this for creating multi-layered overlays, or animated actor props.
Windows user interface. No more command line!

System Requirements

Windows XP or Vista
DirectX 9.0c
Certain features require The Movies to be installed

Download

Go to the Riley Entertainment web site (http://movies.riley-man.com/applications.html) to download! The download is a Windows setup application -- double-click on it to install!

This is version 0.90b, the first public beta. Once I see a number of people report success, I'll release version 1.0.

Special Thanks

Hey riley, I just gave this a quick play. Very nice!

Was wondering if a switch to turn the alpha channel on/off would be included (if not already). Or a simple "view alpha channel only option"? Not really sure if it would be useful for a "management" program, but I thought I'd offer the suggestion anyway.

I love that I can preview my animations... Will speed me up a fair bit!

One other minor thing (more a question). The overlays aren't as well defined as they appear in game (or in PS). I assume this is a memory/speed thing. Any chance you can have an option to view the overlays at the same quality as they'll appear in the game?

I'd edit my own post, but I'm too late...

I see what's happening, now. It displays the image as large as it can (in the correct ratio, or as close as I can tell) depending on the window size of the application.

However, I'd still like an option to view the overlay "as-is", so I can see it as it was created (a little check box saying "view at original size"?)

Thanks.

I'll see what I can do regarding the viewer, and the alpha channel option... Though I should mention that I'm hoping to move on to my next application as quickly as possible. ;)

The main reason the viewer isn't quite as crisp as the DDS conversion output is because I allow the user to resize the window. Tough to explain without going into all sorts of techie stuff about DirectX, but it's because of rounding errors. I'm still learning how to do certain things with DirectX -- hopefully with some more experimenting I can get this right...

More generally... If anyone has any bugs to report, or any questions about how stuff works, please let me know. Either here or on my site. :)

Update: I nosed around a bit more in the DirectX docs. I think I have something that will help make the images appear more crisp in the viewer. There's a bug that JazzX noticed that needs fixing as well. So... look for an update this week.

Update - Version 0.91b

This update consists of the following enhancements and bug fixes:

Images appear more crisp in the main viewer panel.
When converting to DDS, the application now tests if any output files already exist. The user may choose to replace them, or cancel the conversion.
Added an option in the View menu to enable or disable the alpha channel in the main viewer panel.
Fixed a crash that occurred when clicking Convert to DDS with no image files chosen.
Fixed a crash that occurred when switching back to Viewer mode, with no image files chosen, and the frame rate set at "No Animation".

Download the update here (http://downloads.riley-man.com/TheMovies/dcmf/r3-tm-editing-suite/v0091b/setup-r3tm-texmgr.exe), or go to my web site here (http://movies.riley-man.com/applications.html). If you installed version 0.90b, this will replace it.

One person has reported problems with the application during startup. I'm looking into the issue, and hope to solve it once I have some info back.
