When I had a look at the TMO forums today I noticed that a lot of things had changed since my last visit and that it would take days to read through all the new threads. There seem to be a few people from here (well, mainly Roger it seems :huh:) still around there every once in a while and I thought it would be nice to have a thread in which these people could inform us about important things happening in our old home. Basically I'm talking about news from the mod section or anything about new movie techniques and such things, though other things might be interesting as well.
So if anybody notices something interesting there please post here. :cool

Movie News:
Nothing too exciting happening - Cecil Evans's Mortal Coil seems to be one of the more interesting movies released exclusively, I believe, on TMO. Charts are still wonky, with Ultimate Showdown firmly entrenched in #1 on main chart and genre chart, and old favorites like Come On and Oh It's On 3 rising as well, leaving only the occasional new film to break through...on the horror charts, for example, the top three films are all from 2006.
Mod News:
More questions than mods in the Mod Showcase - Riley continues to work on making his amazing applications more user friendly (like his wonderful Texture Manager/DDS Converter Thing) by adding a GUI, Uber's released some mods only to be told they don't work because the user can't figure out how to properly install them, and Shoni88's Predator stuff looks interesting (though definitely not something coming soon in a TMO movie). And presumeably work continues on the Expansion Pack Mod...
People in the News:
ShyShy temporarily banned. Mefune and Jazz vow to ride out the storm and stay with TMO. Bmaitland tries to put together a TMO Singalong.

And the beat goes on....

Disappointed to not see a 24 hour Weather forecast there Ken, but that's good enough (I guess)

Hehe, just noticed it too.... just had a snoop around the forums over there (I still do from time to time.. though I'm not logged on when I do it - why am I telling you this?).. anyway... crashed again. Been like that for at least 5 hours apparently, and no official statement yet...

I'm hoping it's down so they can fix the charts, etc (which are still totally screwed, even though I've tried to tell them...)

TMO crashing... How surprising.... :huh:
Always making mistakes....
Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKVUHhHKe1c) is a little video proves that there has been bigger screw ups...
In this video
Noone died or got injured..
2 dozen vehicles were destroyed
There was this one new filmmaker on TMO... this person's first movie was really good... I sent them the link to tmu and tmoa..

Well, the TMO crash occured today. So if you were unable to log in before today, then you must already had the problem.
Oh, this damn right confusing - one minute it's there and then the next, it isn't :wacko:

TMO's forums are down again. Two days now for me.
I went to TM home page and saw this really long statement (pasted below)
Wow - I get lost after the first few words. :huh:
Server Error in '/' Application.
The remote server returned an error: (503) Server Unavailable.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (503) Server Unavailable.
Source Error:
The source code that generated this unhandled exception can only be shown when compiled in debug mode. To enable this, please follow one of the below steps, then request the URL:
1. Add a "Debug=true" directive at the top of the file that generated the error. Example:
<%@ Page Language="C#" Debug="true" %>
or:
2) Add the following section to the configuration file of your application:
<configuration>
<system.web>
<compilation debug="true"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>
Note that this second technique will cause all files within a given application to be compiled in debug mode. The first technique will cause only that particular file to be compiled in debug mode.
Important: Running applications in debug mode does incur a memory/performance overhead. You should make sure that an application has debugging disabled before deploying into production scenario.

Funny, if I go to the Lionhead forums via www.lionhead.com/themovies/ and then click 'Community', it takes me to the forums.
However, if I go any other way it says "Server is too busy". I've tried both Internet Explorer and Firefox.
Very strange.

Doesn't work in any way for me, just says the Server thing, using Safari here.

Strange - everything normal here! I dunno what it is with that site - remember when Sparky's film was glitched using FF, but there using IE? Anyway, I'm on FF, and the site comes up, wether I go over the community button or via my bookmarks...

Alas.
Through my studio page is how I normally access the forums. I just wonder how I'm managing to get to the forums, albeit not by my usual method, yet other people can't no matter what method they try.
Do I win a prize for having a special magic computer?:biggrin:

I've asked around, checked a few things and found that if you're in England and Europe you can log onto the TMO forums.
If however, you're in the US, you can't.
This is so far anecdotal, but solid from where I've looked.

Down here in the US (where the debates are now over...was that a sidetrack?). Perhaps the Fable thingy overwhelmed them. Back when the brownout occured I thought I would much much much rather have had the forums crash than the movie site. The movie site seemed so much the innocent bystander to all the nastiness of 12 year olds and the old people who couldnt help themselves in replying to them... I still agree with that sentiment. And so in the end it really dont matter much to me.

Yes Sisch, I mean "us". I do wonder what the average age of active users is here and there. Though Ken, Monk and Roger really skew the results...hehe.
Its nice to have threads that dont always devolve into playground taunts and shortbus logic.

Yeah, it was a sad affair to see the flame wars and blame wars over there. And, at the time, I also would have rather the brownout be the forums over the release site. As to them both working now? "...feared or respected? I say, is it too much to ask for both?"
Personally, I would have them fix the forums because I'm not moving just to be able to log into them. I don't care about what someone says or said over there. My goal is to continue to collect some of the tutorials and movie insights people posted when it was "the good place it used to be". I'm not done with that yet and would like more time before they're possibly lost forever.
End of rant :tooth:

I'm not entirely convinced by that Elbow. My guess is that this place could, and would, supply far better tutorials and insights than TMO ever could.
The good tutorials on TMO are vastly swamped by the appalling ones thrown together by rep whores.
I very much doubt that there is any aspect of TM film making that the denizens of this site couldn't explain publicly, or privately.

True that, though the search mechanisms of the TMO forums were always super helpful for finding things.

In time we'll have threads for people to refer to without the need to ask more than a where can I find it, yes.
All of that is at TMO and makes for a good base to build from and improve on.
