Which one should I purchase?
MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus (http://www.magix.com/us/online-marketing/memorial-day/movie-edit-pro/) or Cyberlink PowerDirector 7 Ultimate (http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector/overview_en_US.html)?
Quite a deal on Cyberlink PowerDirector 7 Ultimate, and I like the complimentary online materials. However, I have read a lot of good things about MAGIX Movie Edit Pro here and at MovieStorm.
:helpsmilie:
many people here use magix, cyberlink usually comes with a dvd burner. I have about 5 copies laying around here.

Thanks, Uber. On a completely unrelated topic (I tried to PM you but couldn't), how do you develop your scripts? From the technical side, I have been working with Celtx and really like it. Procedurally, I wish I had a couple of third-parties I could bounce them off of (I don't want to make them public - this is Machinima community, not a creative writing community!).

They seem really similar. I use Magix and I am relatively satisfied as it does what I want (but maybe lacks a certain professionalism you might get through Vegas or whatnot..but what do I know). Heres a nice comparison chart and review section of a host of software I found (but I dont vouch for the credibility..its just something I stumbled upon)...

If you need any more help in the future spending money I'll send you my address.

I think both come with free trial versions, so the best advice I can give is try both and see which one you "get on with".
I recently upgraded to MEP 15 after a while putting off the update and have found it perfectly adequate for what I want to do with it. However, you may well not like the layout, the options, etc. So, with the best will in the world, I'd firmly come down on "get a trial and try them both, then decide".
If you're going to spend cash on something, even if that cash might well not be a lot to you, you've got to be 100% sure it will a) do what you want and b) be something you can stand staring at for hours at a time while you put things together!

Just to be really helpful or anoying :), i use and would recommend Adobe Premiere Elements bundled with Photoshop
http://www.adobe.com/products/psprelements/
But then again i have never used the Magix or Cyber, even though this pc came with cyber director express allready installed. Will get around to trying it one day.

I'm going to lose major geek cred saying this, but I have Adobe Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements and Photoshop! I thought the the first two were just plug-ins for the Premiere and Photoshop; had no idea they were actual applications in their own right. :34:
I changed my career arc about a year ago - right after I first got them, and between new job, new MBA program, and my house getting robbed, never really did much with either.
OK - for the time being it's Adobe Premiere Elements!
I use adobe premier, sony vegas and magix because some things i need to use with one are not available with another. So there is no reason not to use more than one. I just went out and bought them all, if your poor, then just one at a time.
