UP soared into theaters this Friday, to great critical response. I went to see it on Saturday, and I can say with total confidence that it's an animated film that everyone should see. It was both very funny and touching, and the animation was as great as ever. The vocal performances were perfect and fitted their characters to a T. In addition, Michael Giacchino, fresh off of Star Trek, writes a wonderful, charming score. My only complaint was that the later two-thirds of the film didn't quite achieve the heights of the first third, but I'd gladly settle for thirty minutes of near-brilliance. Eh, the rest of the film was still better than anything that comes out of Dreamworks these days. Overall, despite some misgivings about the film, I'm happy to report that the Pixar folks continue to raise the bar in animation. Watch it! now! You don't even need to bring your kids! :)

I'm hoping to see UP sometime next week. Looks pretty good from the trailers, and I found the scenes with the boy scout pretty funny.

Doesn't come out here until October, went to a screening on Sunday though :P
It's a shame the second half falls into extreme cartoony fashion after such a brilliantly realistically done first half, even with the balloons, you accept them with everything that happens. Still amazed they added some infertility issues in a kids film, but good for Pixar.
Couple of neat fun characters as per usual, Dug the Dog and Kevin the Bird being hysterical when around, and the dynamic between Carl and Russell was predictable but wonderful, and I'm surprised how often it was getting misty in the cinema through tears.

When I first heard about it, I wasn't sure about the plot. However, now I think its a neat looking film and I will try to see it as soon as possible, because I am a huge fan of Pixar's movies. I own every film on DVD.

I must say it does look like huge fun, and I actually expect to like it better than I did Wall-E.

As Ethan said, we have to wait 4 months before it comes to the UK. :(
But I've just realised I've seen every single Pixar film, so I'm definiately going to check this out when it comes out.

I loved it. I laughed a lot and almost cried a few times. Not as good as WALL-E but really, really close.

I finally saw UP on Saturday, and I was enthralled.
I loved the beginning, and the relationship between Ellie, and Carl was so touching. It's too bad that their relationship had to end, and the whole fertility scene was sad.
The Russell kid I liked, and the chemistry between him and Carl was almost like Shrek, and Donkey. Shrek being Carl, and being all lonerish, and having this sour attitude, and all, "This is my swamp! This is my house! Don't touch it! Etc....And Russell being Donkey as he always pokes into Shrek's life whether he likes it or not. I just had to compare.
Characters I liked: Doug was funny, and the whole squirrel thing made me smile. When I used to have dogs, they'd go crazy for squirrel's.
Kevin was also interesting, and the bird having fun with Carl was funny.
A couple things that bothered me: The character development was iffy. They should have checked the age of Charles Muntz because he would have been dead by the time Carl met him. I thought the voice gag with Beta the dog was funny, but it was too much of a Alvin and the Chipmunk style. I don't know, but it kind of ruined the film a little bit. And a couple of other small things, but overall I thought this film was superb.
Anyway, brilliant story telling, awesome visuals, and fantastic score.
I give it a 9 out of 10.
