Ok.... here we go... The TMOA Idol contest....
Do You have what it Takes to be declared by the Listeners of TMOA the talent to be
The TMOA Idol????
Here is how the contest will work. Starting October 3, the competition will begin.
Each singer will choose 2 Karaoke songs from Our lists of songs, and one Karaoke song of your own choice...
This is the compulsory list:
Behind Blue Eyes - The Who
Stuck in the Middle With You - Steelers Wheel
Umbrella - Rihanna
Walking in Memphis -Marc Cohn
At Last - Etta James
Imagine - John Lennon
Someone to Watch Over Me - Frank Sinatra
Runaway - Del Shannon
You've Got a Friend - Carol King or James Taylor
Ironic - Atlantis Morissette
Suspicious Minds - Elvis Presley
Dream a Little Dream - Laura Fygi
Mack the Knife - Bobby Darin
We Belong - Pat Benatar
Livin' La Vida Loca - Ricky Martin
Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Judy Garland
First Cut is the Deepest -Sheryl Crow
Crying - Roy Orbison
Angie - Rolling Stones
Are You Lonesome Tonight - Elvis Presley
You Shook Me All Night Long - ACDC
Wild Thing - The Troggs
Boys of Summer - Don Henley
The Girl from Ipanema - well, everybody has done this song....
When you enter, you will be provided with the karaoke version of these songs, ready to add your wonderful, vocals...
If you need some assistance in how to record your voice to the music, I will provide you with technical details... If you have problems finding that special song, Let me know, and we will see if we can find it.
You can present the three songs in any order you choose....and this will be important.
Every song will be voted on and given points by the Listeners of TMOA. Each vote will give a rating of a '3, 2, or 1', with 3 being the best, 1 the worst.
Votes for songs can be PM'ed or Emailed to me at aka.themonk@charter.net . Singers may vote for the other contestants songs, but not their own.
We will premier the songs on the Ken and Roger Show... Depending on how many contestants we get will depend on how many we can get on with one show... There the songs will be commented on by a panel of Critics, hopefully headed by Norrie, Roger, and themonk...
But the winner will be determined by the Votes of the Listeners.
You are encouraged to provide a link to your song for listening, or a link for downloading in this, the Official TMOA Idol Thread...
All the Votes will be held in a Mayonnaise Jar.... yes, that Film of the Fortnight Mayo Jar.... Until all songs have been previewed and Played on Air.
If you think you can be the TMOA Idol.... You indicate your interest by Posting in This Thread.... You must be entered by Midnight GMT October 3rd.
Prizes.... You betcha... Right now the Prize Closet has a Friday Night Rock Show Tee-shirt, and a gift card worth at least $50 US.... and maybe even more!
Sign up... all this could be your's for just a Song.
Here is the link to the karaoke files for the songs on the list:

Oct. 3 is the deadline for your first song... Oct 17 is the deadline for the second song.. and Oct 31 the deadline for the final song....
Here is a good way to put your song where everyone can listen to it. I used Windows Movie Maker, made a quick movie with 'Having My Baby' as the audio, put in a couple of titles, exported and uploaded to TMUnderground, then put the movie/song in to the Idol Channel... check it out!

Three songs... you tell us the order in which they will be done...
One week, we will have the first songs... the the next week the second song.....
The only restriction is that two of the songs are from my list.
If we have a lot of entrants.. it may take a couple of weeks to have everyones first songs played... For those that miss hearing the songs on the show, Listeners should be able to either listen to the song online, (you guys can put your song in a simple title card movie, and put it on TMUnderground) or put it on a file sharing site, like Media Fire, for download by everyone.
Oct. 3 is the deadline for your first song... Oct 17 is the deadline for the second song.. and Oct 31 the deadline for the final song....

As a point of clarification... you post your music anywhere you wish, just give us the link in this thread.
While there are 3 rounds and 3 songs.... there are no eliminations. The winner is decided on by the number of Votes that are sent to ME.
Votes for songs can be PM'ed or Emailed to me at aka.themonk@charter.net . Singers may vote for the other contestants songs, but not their own.
I expect that some may only do one song or two and drop out. You can only win if you do all three songs.
Remember, the deadline for the first song is October 3rd.
Luck!

On the voting - when does that start, has it begun already (before other peoples' songs have been recorded)?
So, anyway - here's my round 1 entry. It's my best piece of singing ever - given the odds, it's probably my only entry. Enjoy:
The song is "So Many Stars" by Sergio Mendez (of Brazil 66 fame) - the lyrics are by Alan and Marilyn Bergman
Everything you hear is recorded and performed by myself including the final trumpet solo; this trumpet got irrepairably damaged at the end of a viewing of Lord of the Rings when I got up to turn the light on and accidentally kicked it over against a lead doorstop. Peter Jackson cost me over £1000! But I'm glad this solo was the last one, I think it's my best ever trumpet solo; a fitting end if ever there was one. I know it's not "Trumpet Idol" but I thought I would mention that.
The link: http://rapidshare.com/files/144279584/starsII.wav.html
Nicely done... Reminds me of Herb Alpert...
As for the voting. I DO NOT want to recieve ANY votes until after the First Round Songs have been presented on TMOA. Any votes recieved by me in my email aka.themonk@charter.net before the songs are presented on TMOA, WILL NOT be counted....

The Girl from Ipanema. Nice touch RogerS, low range, had an original take on the song and liked the way you switched languages so seemlessly.
On another note, I posted my first song to the TMOA Idol channel yesterday, (thanks to all who stoped by) but I can't see it there at that channel. Did I post it at the wrong place?
My guess is that I didn't place it where I thought it would go. Here's the link, to be honest I'm bad at many simple computer things that don't involve music and audio.

Ok, first I must apologize for being neither a red headed female... (oh wait, where am I? Oh yeah, in the middle of a sentence) or drunk, but this song jumped out at me when I heard the list, so I had to do it. I tried to upload it to tmunderground, but it didn't show up, so I uploaded it in a different format, same story and it gives me something about either not being there or not approved by administration yet. Oh, well. I'll put it here for the time being, and remain clueless as to how many people have taken the time to listen. Hope you enjoy, at least a little.

I wanted to go for a Louis Armstrong / Tom Waits grumbly version (like I've done at a couple of bar-room karaokes) but I guess that only "works" when I'm drunk. Haha. With the Deadline for the first Round of songs coming up Friday Oct 3rd... I need all the entrants to Please E-Mail me Your Songs. The reason for this is that we discovered that copying the On-line versions that have been uploaded to TMU loses sound quality.
So if you want your song to sound the best for us to play on air... E-mail it to:
aka.themonk@charter.net
I would suggest that you send it in .MP3 format.... because this is the format to play the song on air.... but .ogg or .wav can be converted with little loss of quality.
If I dont get your song by E-mail, we will use your online version.
We have lots of great entries for the 1st Round and I cant wait to present them on TMOA, where each song will be played, in full to our listening audiance, Oct 5th on Ken and Rogers Sunday Show.
Make sure you email it before 12 midnight GMT Oct 3. If its 12:01 am GMT Oct 4th... it will be too late for an official entry.

As it's getting near to the closing date for the first batch of entries, what's going to be the procedure for handling the public vote after the "potentials" are aired in public on TMOA? Enquiring minds want to know!
:)
Basically it will work this way.... after the sunday show when the first round of songs air, I will post a form in this thread.
You will copy the form, vote a 1, 2, or 3 on each song you like.
3 being you really liked it.. and no vote at all for songs you really really didnt like...
Paste the vote form in an email...and send it to ME, where I will tally the votes....
That's how round one voting will work.... Maybe the same for the next round... maybe not.
I will maintain the tally of all the votes.
Or I might change my mind by sunday.. Who knows...

http://www.tmunderground.com/watch/0f4efc9eec62cb947c16/TMOA-Idol---sischs-MACK-THE-KNIFE
Ooh, nicely done, Sisch. I've got an old crackly version somewhere of Bertold Brecht singing this and it's great to hear it again in German. I was transported back to some decadent club in the Weimar Republic.
* Alfric's 'Girl From Ipanema':
http://www.tmunderground.com/watch/753132652ae09963a05e/girl-from-ipanema
Oh, I like this, Alfric. Great sounding effect with the double-tracked vocalising clones. The vid made me chuckle too.
* Sparky's "BlackBird":
http://www.tmunderground.com/watch/7ac39d782741cd794002/TMAO-Idol-Blackbird-by-Sparky

Man, I have to take the time to vote (and finish my second entry).
Quick question. As part of the two "songs from the list" does it have to be that arrangement, or can we do a different one. For instance, say I found a version of "At Last" that I thought fit what i wanted to do a bit better, would it be acceptable to use that, and still have not count as my one song of choice. Is it still the rule that there has to be two from the list even?

Hmmm.... no problem... so long as it is the same song. I picked these karaokes as the first ones I found of these songs. So if you found a better arrangement, please send me that karaoke, and I can make it available for everyone to use also... Yeah, thats fair.

Congrats to everyone who took part, it takes a lot to step out and throw your hat into the ring for a singing competition. It's been a lot of fun, and nail biting (mostly this week on the nail biting). I certainly hope you're going to keep up with it all, Sisch. That "Mack the knife", especially right around 2:07, was brilliant!

One last thing....
I have now ordered the RockShow Tshirt and the Fifty Dollar Gift Card to Amazon.com for Sisch...
You are welcome, my dear Sisch....
To the winner belongs the Spoils!
Im personally hoping that she orders 50 dollars worth of Rose petals and takes a picture of herself wearing only the RockShow Tshirt rolling on the bed covered with the Rosepedals and sends me a copy...
Thank goodness Ethan didnt win.... the picture just wouldnt have been the same....

Teheheee... you've watched "American Beauty" once or twice too often, haven't you?
I guess you all will get a picture... though wearing slightly more than just the t-shirt.... :)
