I'm writing a scene in one of my screenplays, and it involves the L.A. county subway system as displayed here:

(there are icon links that show you what each line does in detail).

My question is: Can/does a train from one line [ever] crosses into another? Or, are the lines made separate from each other? I'm in a bit of a jam here, and all I need is the truth of this matter to make this scene work- which I'm really adamant in including. There are trains like this in New York and Washington D.C., so that broadens the field of possible TMUers who have rode or still ride any of these trains, or perhaps have a job working with them or doing something else at the station. Please help me out this, anyone. I really have my heart set on this, and I can still pull it off in one or two way- meaning, rather or not the trains can/do cross into other lines or don't. Thanks.

My experience with the NYC subways (which was a while back) says no.

Looking at the map, you have three lines - red, green, and blue. They intersect, which is where you would get off the blue line, for example, at at Metro Center and switch to a red line train to take you to North Hollywood. But normally the trains that run on one line go from one end to the other, and then back - the eastbound train reaches the end, and becomes the westbound train.

So as I understand the system, if you got on the train in North Hollywood, the only way to get to 1st St. in Long Beach would be to switch trains at Metro Center.

London has, probably, the most extensive subway in the world (it was the first city to do so).

Most lines are very linear - but there is the "Circle" line - which is an oval affair. It is possible to fall asleep on the circle line and wake up at the station you left from!

If I was making a film such as "the taking of Pelham 123" or "Speed 4", I would set my action on the circle line.

I don't think there are any signal points on the underground, but I could be wrong.
