Universal Pictures apparently wants to follow the enormous success of their ABBA musical Mamma Mia! by reviving Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's early hit musical Jesus Christ Superstar with (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webbhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2.gif at the helm, this according to the Risky Biz Blog.

The original musical, which typified the music and lifestyles of the early '70s, first hit the big screen in 1973 in a well-known adaptation by director Norman Jewison, which Universal and producer Marc Platt are now in active development to remake and presumably update for modern audiences. (Besides his successful debut, Webb spent many years directing music videos for the likes of Green Day and others.)

You can read Steven Zeitchek's full assessment of this interesting development over at the Risky Biz Blog (http://www.riskybusinessblog.com/2009/07/jesus-christ-superstar-marc-webb.htm), and let us know if you have any interest in a modernization of this musical happening in the comments below.

very good news - been a fan of it - there was a movie made in 2000 - basically filmed a theatre production but it was so-so

would love to see Steve Balsamo-Drew Sarich playing the main parts
