:nuke:The First Annual Ollies :nuke:
As part of the celebrations in regard to the first birthday of TMU, we are looking to see which movies the "viewing public" loved over the last twelve months, in our 1st Annual Ollies!
The process is simple; we are looking for everyone (for indeed YOU, as the viewing public, will be the "members of the Academy" in these awards) to place their votes for the award categories below; everyone gets a vote and the winners will be chosen based on the total number of votes tallied for each category. This way, the community speaks, and the winners will be those voted for BY the community as a whole.
PLEASE READ THE SUBMISSION PROCEDURE AND CATEGORY INFORMATION THOROUGHLY BEFORE STARTING YOUR SUBMISSION!
Procedure
1) Complete the online form (link in the post below) or (if you can't get it to work), copy and paste the list into a PM and send in your nominations that way.
2) List your vote for each category against the category name.
3) Submit the form or PM me the list. The votes will be tallied after the deadline, and the nominees and winners will be listed at a later date.
Any questions please feel free to ask Mr Tom Foster, who will be happy to field any queries you have (provided they’re not the ones about where babies come from, how many beans make five, or two trains start from New York and Chicago…).
Please note that both Tom and I have exempted ourselves from nomination for any of these awards to ensure fair play, so DON'T vote for either of us.
Rules
1) One vote per registered TMU member (you must include your screen-name at the top of your voting form).
2) You must complete as many categories on the list as you can (i.e. no voting for “Best Picture” and leaving the rest blank, for example; if you honestly can't think of a movie/director/writer, etc, that fits a category, then fill in "-----" and move on, but PLEASE try to complete as many as you can. I'm sure everyone here can complete at least 90-95% of the form without breaking much of a sweat). Nominations that only contain entries for best actor, director and movie, though (as an example), will be unlisted in the final tally.
3) To qualify for nomination, the listed movie(s) must have been released on TMU between 22 July 2008 and 22 July 2009 (either via direct upload or embedding from another hosting site).
Movies hosted/uploaded to other sites, which have NOT been embedded on the movie site, do not qualify (i.e. forum posts pointing to movies hosted off-site, for example). As clarified on R&K tonight, these films CAN be films that were previously released on TMO, PROVIDED they were on the site/embedded between those two dates.
As the Movie site lists movies by days since it was uploaded, the cut off point is: any member who joined the movie site or a movie uploaded 20 days ago OR MORE (correct as of Tuesday 11 August 2009).
The last acceptable movie that could be voted on this year would therefore be Sanction27’s Mod Showcase movie for July 09; anything later than this would be acceptable for the 2010 Awards, but not this year’s.
3) All completed lists must be back by 31 August 2009.
4) You CANNOT nominate yourself or your own movies for categories; you can only nominate ANOTHER community member; self nominations will be disqualified.
5) No canvassing for votes will be allowed; anyone caught doing so will be DISQUALIFIED from nomination.
6) Please follow the format as suggested after each category (i.e. BEST PICTURE (list FILM-DIRECTOR); it makes it easier for us to count up the nominations.
The votes cast will be tallied, and the top three in each category will go forward to the final stage. A list of the top three will be posted.
At that point, a second round of voting will be taken for the nominees; the movie or individual in each category with the highest number of votes cast will be judged the winner.
PRIZES
All winners will be awarded a forum badge denoting their win.
The coveted OLLIE AWARD prop (only available to Ollie Winners), available in Movies, Moviestorm and iClone format (courtesy of the multi-talented Mr MikeDeBoing!)
Further prizes to be confirmed.

Please note neither categories nor rules are subject to negotiation.
And remember: these are YOUR awards; vote for the films, directors, writers, etc, who YOU think best encapsulate the spirit of the community.
You have until 12:00 midnight GMT on 31 August 2009 (3 full weeks, people!) to get the first round nominations in. Once these are in and tallied, we will produce the final nominees for the second round votes; submission guidelines for this will be posted after Round One.
Looking forward to seeing how the voting turns out!
Now, enough blather; get your thinking caps on and let’s have those votes in!

Film on guys! :)
Question- How do the movies get chosen into each category?
Fospherous

Look down below Jake on Killian's post, it explains. :)
So when you send the PM to Killian with the nominations you simply put down, e.g:
Best Horror - (Insert movie title & director)
Best Sound Editing - (Insert movie title & director)
Best Comedy - (Insert movie title & director)
and so on and so forth for each category

Thank you, Roger... one down, a coupla hundred more to come... :)
Just a reminder; please make sure you read all the rules and the categories thoroughly before sending in your nominations so no confusion arises in your decisions (and it saves me having to send the forms back for amendments!)
Thanks to all who have sent their votes in so far... but there is still plenty of time to get them in... and plenty of people to SEND them in! Keep 'em coming :)

Since I suggested the Olllies, I thought I should do a little searching and I found this little trinket. If ya think it can serve as the Ollie, then great. Imagine this coveted golden baby in your hands! Woot!
Can a modder out there mod THE OLLIE as a holdable item for THE MOVIES format? It would be neat to actually hand it on stage as you give your acceptance speech!
In the meanwhile......
All members of TMUnderground should be casting their ballots!
Here is the Ollie that I've submitted.

I think thats a wonderful poster K4, and I like that idea alot about the winner getting there very own OLLIE award prop which can be formatted into use for iClone, The Movies, MS, etc etc and then sent to them via skype when it has been announced they have won.
I'll get in contact with a certain modder to see if he can do that. Thanks a lot for all these wonderful ideas.
But for now, get those nominations rolling in! :)

Simply click on the link and type in your TMU Username where stated, then fill in your nominations for each and every category and submit! :)
Thanks and get nominating! :walkman:

Not here to make waves but what is the reasoning behind rule #2 (you must fill in all categories)?
If nothing sticks out to me, I am not going to go hunting for something to nominate and I don't want to nominate something simply because it fits in your category and I happen to have seen it. Theres also an issue of having to fill out categories that have nothing to do with movies (K&R show). Does this mean I should not get to vote on the movies because I don't often listen to the show (don't tell Ken please...)?
I bring this up after filling out the form with my share of "No Selections" and then reading the manual. Er...

Good question and one that deserves an answer.
The purpose behind the "all categories" is to ensure that someone doesn't just pick and choose what they want to fill in (ie best picture, best actor, etc) and leave out those categories which also deserve to be recognised (best non-english film, best music, best poster, etc) but don't get checked ordinarily (which are all equally valid categories to be looked at).
The whole point of the exercise is to prod people into looking at things they might not necessarily check out normally, and to wave a flag for the people, movies and indeed skills in MAKING those movies that get overlooked in the usual hype, not to act as "just another movie award ceremony".
There are a lot of achievements in the fields of "technical know-how" that should be recognised as much as overall film, acting or writing, which don't get the recognition they deserve (where would some of the "big movies" be without custom mods, music, special effects work, etc, etc). Equally, the very existence of these forums we use daily indicates that the collective of film-makers (community, gaggle, call it what you will) deserves to be recognised in some way or other, otherwise what's the point?
And, equally, just because someone doesn't have access to VOs for their movie, or speaks a language that isn't English, or spends time and effort creating PR for their movie, or any of the other categories that are in the list, doesn't mean they should be swept under the carpet or ignored in favour of the "usual suspects" like best picture, etc.
Ultimately, though, if people don't want to participate in the nominations, that's their perogative; no-one is being forced into voting for movies or directors or technical awards if they don't want to.
In the instance of "Best Guest", for example; yes, there are people who don't listen to R&K, VOTC, W&D Hour, etc, etc; that's fine and we understand that. But I think it'd be a very sad day indeed if people AREN'T either looking at these other categories or at least remembering films they've seen which fit into them.
Fospherous
08-10-2009, 11:07 AM
Indeed, but please do try your best to fill in as many as you can. If you feel you can't fill in one because you can't think of someone to nominate and you don't think anyone has lived upto that certain category, just move on :)

From what I can see, there is a mod for best prop; but why only have that award for our hard working modders?
I think more catigories for modders are nessisary; without them, the community wouldn't be what it is now.

Please note neither categories nor rules are subject to negotiation. The categories for this year are set now; they will not be changed. That said, new categories are being thought of for next years, so suggestions made will be considered for next time.
Also, yes there are categories for best set, prop and costume/makeup; bear in mind that with multiple engines now available, the site and forums aren't Movies-centric (but, of course, you can nominate whatever you want) and "modding" is a lot easier for iClone and MS than the Movies ever was.

Nice question.
Well back in the TMO days on The Movies Online, there was a user called OlliEntertainment who reviewed over 11,000 films on TMO. So hence we have named it after him.
And it's proved to be quite a catchy and popular name for the awards among the community. :)

Just a quick note if you're using the special nomination spreadsheet Killian has designed at this link: http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dGNmWVJqcXdYR2dZVHpDWHVqWkZLUWc6M A Here is something important you must know.
When you come to a category which you can't think of anyone to nominate in, simply fill the space with ----- or (Blank) Because the system won't accept you leaving blank spaces in any of the boxes
Thanks!

08-11-2009, 04:08 AM
Just a gentle reminder to people :-
You CANNOT nominate yourself or your own movies for any categories (any submitted so far have been changed to Blanks and therefore will not count for nominations);
Check that the film or person you are nominating actually QUALIFIES before submitting your nominations (had a couple come in for members or films that fall outside the "window of opportunity" listed above...). Instances of this happening have been changed to blanks on the submission and do not count for the final tally.
PLEASE complete as many categories as you can (any nomination forms with less than 50% of the form completed, either due to the above offence or just nothing in the list, will result in that form being ignored during the tallying); the categories are there for a reason, folks... please consider them.
PLEASE check you understand the category and nominate correctly (if in doubt, ask either myself or Tom) and
PLEASE follow the format for submissions (it's not easy trying to figure out what film is being talked about when you give a director's name for Best Picture for example, or a film soundtrack for Best Composer with no name attached to it! PLEASE try and leave me some hair for when this is over, will yah?? ;))
I have a something to say- I think the spreadsheet is easier but, what if someone pretends to be someone else?

Well they must be an utter c*** then.
Killian will be able to find out if people are pretending because he can see their IP Address and see if they are doing it multiple times. And if any moron was to do this, and we catch them, we will disqualify their votes and I don't think they should ever show their face here again. I hope thats got the message across in a serious and straight to the point manner :)

Ok, here's some updates.
Mr. MikeDBoing is going to be starting work on a special mod which is The Ollies Official Award Trophy which every winner in their category will be sent via skype when they come on air to do their acceptance speech!
The look of it is here - http://www.tmoaradio.com/vb/showpost.php?p=41278&postcount=10
It can be seen in the poster which K4 made.
Me and Killian have agreed and we believe that this fits to be the official Ollie trophy, and I tell you, it's one hot gold babie!
Mike will be making the mod available in The Movies, Moviestorm and iClone format, so no one will miss out!
Official screenshots of these golden babies will be posted soon when the mod is finally created by Mikey! :)
In other news!
As you may know, Me and Ethan run a podcast every week talking about movies, both in the real world and on TMU and in support of The Ollies, over the next few weeks we will be releasing special episodes created for The Ollies as we give you all the gossip on who may be nominated for what and everything you can imagine including who will be turning up at the ceremony, dresses, guests, music and more...Tis going to be so glamourous I'm sure Heddy Hooper herself would want to get in on the act!...It's all official in the run up to the awards!
It will be the ultimate guide to The Ollies with Documentarian Ethanial Runt and Film Critic Thomas Von Foster.
So stay tuned for that and more, soon!

quick Q - is there a way to edit submission? i think i may have violated one of the rules i.e. nominating my own work - primarily due to unfamiliarity with some of the work in specific categories and process did not let me submit without filling out those other categories
- is there a way to just submit some areas. I'm afraid people like myself may not know all of the categories (i.e aware of only 1 or 2 films) - for example not all of us know which films have live action of TMU members, not all of us know which movies used external special effect programs
Killian
08-11-2009, 01:31 PM
Submissions wise, PM me and I will check off the previous submission for you, allowing a second one to be made (as I have access to the database which stores the submission information).
If you genuinely can't think of a movie which fulfils a specific category (and there might be one of two), just enter "-----" or similar into the box when you reach it on the form.
Realistically speaking, it's not likely that everyone will have even watched a movie in every category, but I expect that all forms should have entries for at least 50% of the categories (purely because, by extension of people being forum members, that most folk will be aware of movies in general).
Any live action movie on the site, by extension, should be one that has been made by and/or starring a community member, as others aren't allowed. There isn't a specific category for them on the movie site (purely because there weren't any when the site was begun), so you might have to dig a bit; doesn't mean that they don't deserve a mention, of course (which is why we have an award category for them!)
And, don't forget, there are 2 and a bit weeks to go before submissions need to be in, so there's plenty of time to poke around the site and watch some movies (which is one of the reasons we ran the contest in the first place!)

Do as I am doing, bookmark the page, print a copy for your own use (I fill in the blanks on paper so when I am ready to fill out the official form, I have it all written out), research each catagory, write the info on the copy, then fill out the form online using what you have written on your paper. :tongue_smilie:

*** IMPORTANT REMINDER ***
I need to remind people again; in order to qualify for nomination for THIS YEAR'S Ollies, the movies MUST have been upped or embedded on the movie site between 22 July 2008 and 22 July 2009; anything uploaded AFTER 22 July this year does NOT qualify for nomination for this year's list.
Looking at the movie site, anything upped MORE THAN 23 DAYS AGO counts (as of today, 15 August 2009); anything upped 22 days ago or less does NOT count for the 2009 Awards (but WILL count for the 2010 awards, so bear those nominations in mind).
PLEASE check carefully when nominating; I have had to make several category nominations ineligible due to this very reason.
And, as a reminder, the link to the voting form is HERE (http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en_GB&formkey=dGNmWVJqcXdYR2dZVHpDWHVqWkZLUWc6MA..).

Before you all get huffy and puffy about the size of this image..and i do mean you Uber :) , i would like to thank all of you who have been supportive of this endeavour .
Also i have made it this big because i wanted to show that , indeed, all the statues are individualy textured to show the category being honnored by the recipient..and to show off too, sue me!
and now, ...
without any further ado:
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii95/MikeDBoing/Groupshot04.jpg
As of now they are all in the The Movies format as static props but i have made them available as bottle replacements for the bar scenes. Simple instructions will be available in the archives to make them available in more prop categories. And should the need for any modifications arrise...you know who to call.
Also, the iClone versions are on the way as OBJ files. They look almost as awsome as the blender versions....never thaught i'd say that..but i digress.
The MS versions have gotten into a snag. The mapping coordinates get all mushed up on export, someting i think my exporter does because it might be using a format from an early version of Sketchup (the only format, so far, that can be imported in MS) BTW if any MS modding guru could get in touch with me, i would be very gratefull.
Enjoy

After losing my hard-thought nomination form the day before the nominations were due (the "dog ate my homework" excuse, according to Killian...what can I say, in this case, the dog actually did eat my homework, and though I cut him open, I didn't find it...), I must say I found this a bit easier - the only films I hadn't seen were two of the subtitled films, which I quickly remedied.
Which is not to say that there weren't categories where I really had to almost flip a coin between two completely worthy nominees. I would have preferred, for example, voting for actor and role instead of just an actor, but I understand where you might have 20 Sisch or 20 Dulci or 20 AND performances in a year, the fact that any one of them might have only one or two votes made it difficult to line up actor and performance - even when Michael Caine was in every other movie, or Nic Cage is in every other movie, they're still only doing 3 a year, which can be quantified. Splitting it up among 10-15-20 would be impossible.
I also want to say that as far as I'm concerned, Killian and Tom deserve honorary Ollie's of their own (since they're not eligible for the voting process) - both have done a tremendous job of organizing and running a very complex process, and it ain't done yet.
Although we can't do anything Ollie-wise for them, I'd like to come up with something to honor their devotion and community spirit - I can let Tom's show continue a few more weeks, but what can I do for Killian....okay, I'll do your lines....

Just a quick one to answer Jase's query (as I'm on my way out the door to work); whilst you uploaded Dead Cases yourself recently, it was on the site earlier (I believe JazzX uploaded it as part of his vault), therefore it qualified.
The thanks shouldn't be for us, but to the filmic collective for producing so many outstanding films, scripts, performances, etc, etc, that virtually cried out to be recognised; for all the help and warm welcoming that I myself received when I popped into existence on TMU, this is my way of giving back to the wonderful folk who gave of their time and hard work to help me to make my loooooong movies, so no thanks needed here :)

I'm very pleased that THE OLLIES is being taken as a FUN thing!
Nobody should take this soooo seriously that they get soooo bent out of shape or soooooo full of themselves. Agreed? It is FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY.
What's my guideline? Directly put, I do what I do because I want to do it and not because of some award or recognition, although those are 'fleetingly' nice. Making machinima magic with you is gratifying and reward enough. If anybody enjoys what I do, then great! That is icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned. The great friendships we have is more than what any Ollie could ever represent. I thnk we could all agree with that!
So then..... what is the Ollie?
Simply.....
The Ollies is a great, novelty feature to create some Glam 'n' Glitter, some excitement... it provides a fun way of promoting outstanding films, notable machinima talent, and the overall machinima community of TMUnderground.
Understand that everybody is important, appreciated, and valued for the 'beneficial' contributions they make to the TMU machinima community. In that regard, everybody is an Ollie winner!
And so... let's have some FUN with this! Let's laugh, chuckle, snicker, cheer, or giggle..... applaude and have a good time.
Thank you Killian and TF for taking this 'old man's' suggestion and making it happen! You rock!

The mere fact that we can all come together and enjoy the fruits of our labour is what makes this community worthwhile.
Congratulations to all who were nominated and a big thanks to all who have included some of my productions in this fun event.
Special thanks to the organisers who I must say deserve something for this!

Speak for yourself!!! I should have gotten at least three nominations!!!!
Just kidding. Congrats to all the nominees. They are all well deserved. Although I wish I had gotten at least 1 nod though but since there are over 700 members and well over 2000 films in the past year, someone had to be left out.
This gives us all something to shoot for next year. Congrats again Nominees.

Definitely K4, This is all for fun which we want the whole community to enjoy. We don't want this event being turned into a popularity contest either, we want you to go out onto TMUnderground and watch the nominees and make fair decisions based on the movies' qualities, so the best can win!
Anyway good luck and get voting. And as this all takes place, all the preparations will be underway for the big evening where all of Moviewood's hottest stars help each other make this evening, truly one to remember! :)

The votes flood in, and the competition is hotting up! It could go any one of three ways in ANY category at the moment, so make sure you get those votes in!
As an aside, in preparation for next year (yes, I think that far ahead!), our own Master Yodel himself posted a handy checklist for your film credits/TMU Movie site descriptions to ease the process of finding the nomination info for next year's awards (which will extend from 22 July 2009 to 21 July 2010), which can be found HERE (http://www.tmoaradio.com/vb/showthread.php?t=2842); something to bear in mind if you want to make your movie as easy to nominate as possible next year :)
In other news, we have had some new prizes offered by generous community members which will be revealed at a later point! More news on that as the time nears for the final reveals :)

No need to thank us; it's all payback for the hard work, dedication and downright fun the members of TMU have provided for us all this past year :)
9 days to go and the voting is VERY close at this point in some of the categories (indicative of the extremely high calibre of productions that the FC ("filmic collective") nominated this year.

K4 just to clarify 'cause I'm not sure. This is directed only at the nominees or anyone who has a film on TMU? Thanks.
TINMAN
10-04-2009, 10:12 PM
No..... It means "Everybody!"..... to everyone with a movie on TMU! LOL All of our movies help to make TMU what it is! And I thought this was a great way to at least highlight them.
An audio clip of dialog taken from the movie itself is perfect!
I've grabbed as many audio clips as I could, tweaking here and there.... and a small number of others graciously sent in clips... all of which I am trying to sew together.
Since I didn't get as many as I had hoped, this means longer AIR time for those audio clips that were sent in.
Should you still send in an audio clip from YOUR movie? Yes, most defintiely! I may still be able to use it... or at least save it for another gala event!
Send to: thek4network@hotmail.com
Thanks for your question!

The show was a well put together production. Proper credit should be given to the creators as it was obvious a lot of work to put together. I also want to recognize MGM and Norrie who did a real bang up job of the pre-awards show. It had great entertainment value and did well in giving the show hype.

I had a wonderful time. Working with Norrie was a dream come true and I could not have asked for a better or more gracious co-host. He does what all great pros do he made me aspire to do my best and in the doing of that he made me better than I expected. Thank you Norrie!
And thanks to the Ollies voters for my two wonderful awards! It really is an honor to be a part of this, the first ever Ollies! And a very warm thank you to Tom and Killian. You inspire all of us and have shown us that dreams really do come true.

Major kudos to Tom, Killian and K4 for their work on this. And to Ken for giving us the webspace to show our films.
Congrats to all the winners. To the host of the pre-award show, to the host of the awards show and it's presenters and the hosts of the post-award show, great job.

Thanks for all the thanks; we tried our best :)
The important thing was that we hoped everyone had fun (which is what it was all about, at the end of the day; a chance for everyone to let their hair down, chill, have a laugh, discuss some great movies, recognise our friends and colleagues in the community, talk about what we hope to see making the rounds next year, stimulate the creativity, bring film makers together and not get too serious about it all... which I think, on the whole, we managed to do!)

What a wonderful, wonderful event it was! :)
Loved the pre-show with MGM and Norrie - you two should do shows together more often!
K4 - you're the best! Loved how you presented the show, and now I've heard about your predicament; wow, that's dedication! Big kisses for you, and get well soon! :001_smile:
A big kudos also to Killian and Tom, who worked tirelessly to make all of this happen. And of course to Ken, for giving us this place, for the radio shows and for being... Ken!
Congrats to all the nominees and winners - and really, to the whole community. We saw so many great films this last year, in my book, everyone is a winner!
Last but not least, I would again like to say thank you all - for your support, for making this filmic collective what it is, for the fun I have here, for your help, thoughts; for the inspiration, the acting, the modding, the music....
This is a great place to be! :001_smile:

I also want to join in by congratulating Tom, Killian, and K4 for an outstanding show. Originally I thought the format would turn into a bit of a kerfuffle, but I gotta hand it to you guys (and Ken too), the organisation was outstanding.
K4 did a superb job - I could picture the winners staggering through the crowds to reach the podium thanks to his great commentary.
The chatroom was lively too. Especially EthanRunt's running commentary. (Although I note that I was described as a bat at one point!)
I really enjoyed it. Really. Well done to everyone!
