coming this saturday on tmoa is
The DCMF Modding Hour With Stvndysn & Mike D Boing
and for our first show we will delve into what modding means, the tools you use and a few little insights.
also on our first show we have a guest---our very own leader GLEEM, who will be talking about new stuff happening at dcmf, and we may even talk him into doing the animation app we have been planning for a while.
if you have any mods you want advertising, from The Movies, Iclone or Moviestorm, send either me or mike the files for us to devour and we will review it on air.
also as we dont know any iclone and moviestorm modders apart from dulci, and the evil one (and if you dont know who the evil one is -- Guppy), then let us know and we may get you on our show in the future.
we will also be taking questions from the chatroom, so join our resident chat host judy, who will be given an upgrade to the 9 iron, should things get out of hand.
and remember the time 3pm-4pm EST; 8pm-9pm UK) right after norrie and chris62

Man we had fun, lets do this again... WE will be back next week for more modding goodness and like we said on the show, post questions here for next week's show so we have more than an hour of random geek chatter to pester you with.
Any modding related question is welcome, from modeling in blender to getting your modds into either The Movies, iClone or MovieStorm.

ok has we said on the show last night we will be posting links to stuff, so-
first off if you dont have it yet, you need blender (http://www.blender.org), you will also need Med (http://www.dcmodding.com/main/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=97&Itemid=2). and for texturing gimp is good (http://www.gimp.org/).
now if you wanna learn blender your best starting on blender wiki (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro/Coordinate_Spaces_in_Blender) or you could also check out our comprehensive tutorials over on DCMF (http://www.dcmodding.com/main/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=79&topic=1229.0)
happy modding and we will see you next saturday

BREAKING NEWS
Do you know a Iclone or Moviestorm modder.
Are you in regular contact with them
would you willing to speak to them on our behalf
we need a modder from both platforms to be REPORTERS for a 10 minute section each
so if you know of someone who wants to be famous for 10 minutes each week please help, donate a small bit of your time in asking them.

ok got it. I can't wait till yesterday's show is availuable.
A great fantasic show. Im glad gleem was the guest. Really, the hardest part for me in changing scenes with animation changer, is trying to view them. So... Is there anyway gleem will release the script that at least imports into blender the animation?
It would make things so much easier.
Also, I believe we are not utalizing all the resources availuable to us in terms of making new scenes. I believe the way we present a costume can provide a new scene.
Like my latest release of the Nova costume. Since I use the costume with the space arena set, walking was not how she was designed. And although it looks cool walking in space, It would be better to display the nova costume flying. So I made a bottom half of her costume in which she is hovering and flying. This will look good on any set. And it simuats flying. Make a walk scene, and she is hovering along. I talk more in depth on the subject in my web log at my web site.
Cant wait to hear the next show. Great hour well spent.
My question for the radio program is:
How do I remove an object from a costume, so that I can weight it to another armature?
Like the head from the cos_g_fut_tz1.msh
The robot with the square head.
Once I have just the square head, how can I make it a stand alone object that I can then weight to a different armature?

Monk....lost....the download file for all the Saturday shows last week.

Feel free to ask ...but be aware that our Lady Guard Judyann88 will be patroling the perimeters with her Laser Targeted Ultra Modded 9Iron(tm)..so be civil about your ranting of Blender and modding in general.

I hope stvn is back next show.
Thankyou for anwsering my question. It works!!! But...
I have another problem with bone weight. It works, detatching the mesh from an armature. I mean clear parent. Yet, when I clear an mesh from the cow armature, and then parent it to a human armature, i get the python error. I went down to the buttons and cleared the groups... deleted them, and then from there tried to parent, then weight them to another armature. Got the python error. The process works with items that came from the same amature that I parent the object to. But if the item is parented to an armature different from one it came from then I get the python error. Even after deleting the groups at the bottum. I don't think it is the type of armature. I see anchors and extra stuff that comes with those animated props. The cow has something called an "A#@ Hole anchor". And its located at the... $%^##.
The Black Box says "Bone key must be a string"
I know rysto made the animal costumes, and he weighted the meshes to the human bones. I want to know how he made the animals able to be parented to the human armatures.
I need to know this so I can finish my animal people costumes. I guess if I really wanted to i could just edit his costumes... (I cant, strangely they have the animal bones, How the hell did he make scenes for them!!??))
but I could never finish my AT walker if I dont know this.
I experimented with putting a human arm on the side of a dog and i got the python error.

09-28-2009, 08:46 PM
The guys on the show might be able to better answer, but...
I'm not sure you can just plop a skinned mesh from one armature to another in that manner. Each armature typically has a completely different set of bones. The python errors you're getting are likely being caused by the two armatures having a different number of bones.
I don't know for certain what rysto did to achieve his various costumes or the walking ants.
But if I were doing something similar, I'd probably just break apart the mesh into pieces. Each piece would correspond to the bone I'd want to skin it to. I'd then attach each mesh such that it's initially weighted 100% to that bone. Then tweak the weights for those vertices along the "joints" (knees, elbows, neck, etc.).

what a show next week is going to be!!! I can't wait to hear about the starmaker stuff. You continuelly blow are minds.
my questions conserning the new starmaker armatures being found:
Are we looking at an armature for starmaker head creation? And if it is, does it do so by moving the bone... thus moving the object head?
Like when we raise the top of the head in starmaker, is just the head getting bigger, or are the bones connected to the top of the head changing position allowing the head to raise? If this is the case, is there anyway to see how the game utalizes moving bones from one position to another, so that we may learn how to do so with other armatures? (I hope its the bones moving and not just the head) Or does a file similar to an animation file tell the bone to be further extended above the head in order to accomidate a high crown of the head? And if it is such a file, and if that file is not an animation, but another kind, Are there more? Can they be utalised in scenes?
I will wait to hear the answers on the show, if you want to wait till the show. I so gotta skip my afternoon shift and just hear the show!

Loved the show, despite the deadair for a few minutes. Sweenytodd was a super guest!
I have a question for next saterday, gleem's new talking wolf!!!
Can this be accomplished with Silvia's weight transfer script?
Can the emoting properties from the generic_facial be transfered to any costume by using this transfer?
Can the transfer be done to objects with a different set of vertices? And does it only work if the objects being used have the same vertice groups for each object?
And Question number2:
Is there anyway, as long as the vertice count is the same, the.hd heads can be exported as .hd? Rather then being exported as .msh? It would be nice to have more heads to choose from in starmaker. Does gleem have an export for .hd?
And the slimer was a fantastic mod! Can particle effects be added to costumes so that we could see slime being projected from slimer?

I have a quick question for the show. (Hope mike is back and moved in), I heard of several blender scripts that can copy a uvmap from one object to another, so long as the other object has the same vertices, but is there one that can copy the uv to another object that has a different number of vertices? And would it work if one decimated the other object to the same number of vertices the uv object has? Being that they both look like humans..?

then i about 15 minutes to go i got a skype call from friend, 2 minutes into call my mic suddenly started conking out, even after moving the mic around i got nothing going through.
so i tried restarting laptop and then my resident isp provided safety protocols crapped out on me (bloody virgin media), so i decided to leave it alone for night, while i give the isp hell for their crappy software.
will have a new mic bought and paid for before next weeks show, providing my finances allows.

I hope stvn is still not out from the holidays. I know I had a heck of a party. Just cleaning up the christmas stuff at home... and at my father's store, never seems to end. But, stvn's armature:
Is stvndysn's full human body rig for an upcoming animation program soon to be released from dcmf?
Is blender's animation capacities going to become the limelight of dcmf's future focus?
And with so many stipulations from the movies game, will an animation script ever become a reality... I understand that the movies game has lots and lots of details to its scene animations... especially when emoting is something separate from a scene. Does this mean that an animation script would have to assume an incredible amount of data? Or is an animation script a possibility after all?
Plus, the titanic... is the background also apart of the set, the image beyond the water, and does it take up alot of space on the lot? I don't mind... I got a movie in mind for it. It just looks like an incredible job. Can people stand on the deck? Are there scenes to the titanic? I can just imagine the camera looking over the shoulder of an actor who is watching the sea for any peculiar developments. An IceBerg!!!

This week we will be delving in the nuts and bolts..and any other props we might find, in the Numerouno tool of choice, wich means the only one:blink: ..i think, to modding The Movies.
Yes, the one and only MED!!..i repeat myself a lot in these posts, darn it.. anywho..:001_huh:
Stvn and I will go from the very first click of the Med icon to a total shutdown of your brain cells..and that is just in the first...oh...say 5 minutes...yeah, about right.
A lot of forum questions of late have been targeting this wonderfull tool and, its quirks, missing functions, wtf moments. But today is the day we tackle as many we can cram in an hour, and if that is still not enaugh (i have to take a break for breating too ya know...yeah, long time listeners will say "What? he stops to breathe?")..where was i? oh yeah...if we run out of time, we will continue on the next week show.
Stvn and I feel a lot of users are not fully aware of all the features that Med has been crammed with, as well as bugs and not so obvious workarounds available.:33:
So if you have been strugling with Med , this is the one,or two,or three shows not to be missed.
It starts at 3Pm eastern and some other time depending on where you are..be there and join us in the TMOA chatroom, we will be looking for questions and getting feedback from all attendees.
See y'all today!

Hey guys, I have a question for the show.
Can a mesh be uvmapped to more then one texture? I noticed that lightmaps often don't mirror the usual texture, so maybe the mesh is uvmapped to it differently..?
Also, It would simplify so much if a mesh could have more then one texture. (since a lot of textures are already made, and I may have done a lot with another texture) Or have two different unwarappings to two different textures. Is this possible in the movies game?
Does the movies game allow a mesh to have more then one material?

sorry to all our listeners we didnt get time to talk about the subjects in the last post.
reason mainly is mike rambling on and our great guest wolf, gave me good advice on getting tm content into iclone.
you can see how the advice went when me and wolf chatted yesterday below
tm gorilla in iclone animated (http://www.tmunderground.com/watch/5a28a855a11894b2e795/tm-in-iclone)
and a pic wolf took of gorilla in a jungle scene
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j262/stvndysn/gorilla.jpg
so you guessed it the conversion has started
and if you do want to get your own models in then the tm rigs are very handy

if you have some blender knowledge. you might want to take a look at the blend file provided below as you follow the little on air tutorial on how i did it or even have blender open ready for the tutorial

ok this post has nothing much to do about saturdays show, more about my what im doing for modders.
I recently sent an email to Reallusion asking if they would support blender as a content tool, so we can do equal to what their 3dsmax support has, ie being able to create proper content.
Well the reply i got back was soo lame i couldnt believe it, and was on the lines of the following.
Just watch the pipeline tutorial on blender to iclone.
personally i find this sickening that the reply said this so i have formulated another email to them saying the following
hello.
I am a modder (what you call developer) for the movies game and machinima and part of TheMoviesUnderground. I also do a online radio show on TMOA, about using 3d applications to create machinima content, Since some of your great stars like Dulci and Animatechnica started using Iclone and showing what iclone can do i became a big fan of iclone and wanted to create content for them.
But heres the issue i have, i use Blender an open source 3d application that has come along way in the industry and has in a lot of ways equalled what 3dsMax can do.
ive emailed before asking if you could create a addon for blender, so blender users can create content for iclone, and the reply i got wasnt satisfactory. ie oh just watch the pipeline tutorial for blender.
I believe if REALLUSION wants to grow you should, support more 3d software and i believe Blender is one such application that deserves your support.
Now my question is could this be possible, either by one of your coders who knows python, or if not, pay a blender coder to write the addon for you.
If this happens you will get a lot more CTD being able to create stuff that 3dsMax can do..
i would also like to know if someone from RL would like to come on my radio show to talk about this, and see how we all can take this into the future.
thank you for your time in reading this email, and await a response.

I think he means developing a tool like for the movies, but for iclone, where you can create your own models & animations with blender and easily get them into iClone.
Right...?

As some..or maybe all of you know, the DCMF Modding Hour has been rescheduled to the Saturday 4.00 PM eastern time slot because of the difficulties RL has imposed on some of us at DCMF.
After 3 weeks i thought Jake could take a break in making sure our audience knew about it... as well as his :shifty:
Hoping to see you all this weekend in the chatroom and on TMOA radio :4:
