My name is Brad and I like to make movies obviously. I'm a big horror movie fan but I also like action, sci-fi and comedy as well.

Welcome Brad. Don't hesitate to ask questions. We are a very friendly, helpful bunch here. Just out of curiosity, what programs do you use to film? iClone, Moviestorm, Muvizu, live action?

Welcome! I second what Harb has already said. If you need any help don't be afraid to ask.

In response to Herb, I just export the movie from the game to my hard drive and then use windows movie maker to do secondary post production editing outside of the one in the game. If I should be using something else in addition to it then let me know as I have no other experience in any other kinds of programs.
To Valient, thanks! I actually do need help. I'm wanting to make a series of 3 90 minutes movies based on the "Last Action Hero" film starring Arnold Schwartzenegger. They would be Slater 1 through 3. If I can get some writers to help write the scripts, then it wouldn't take me long to do the animation and I could get voices and crank these films out pretty quick now that I have Stunts and Effects.

I love how people can tell you to go ahead and ask for help but when you make threads asking for help, no one helps!
Well it's not taking me long to see that this is obviously not the place for me. This will be my last time coming here.

Sometimes a thread can sit for a few days or a few weeks before you get an answer or any kind of interest. Even those of us who have been around for 4-5 years can have trouble getting help right away. Sometimes it does take time.
We try to answer as best we can as quickly as possible but you also have to remember 'real life' can also dictate how much we are on the forums. Don't give up. Give it a little time. Also, when asking for help, try to be more specific in what you need. Just asking if there is a mod out there of a certain city isn't enough, you also have to say what program you need it for since mods for one program won't necessarily work in others. Give as much detail as possible.
Also remember, because you are fairly new and no one has seen any of your work yet, it might take a little time for people to get used to you. As you get more known on the forums and the movie site, people will warm to you quicker.

Hell, all I wanted was either help or advice. I got a little advice but no one willing to tell me where I can get help.
Anyways, no matter! I've dropped the project I was planning on working on anyways in light of the fact that I decided to work on several smaller projects instead.
Projects that require no ADVICE or no HELP! Which means you'll never see another advice or help thread from me because obviously you have to build a REPUTATION here before anyone wants to help or advise you.
I use the movies game exclusively and no other program. Just FYI for anyone who wants to know. So no one will see anything else from me except a final production post for each of my SHORT films.

Didn't realize that REPUTATION mattered around boards like this!
Reputation doesn't matter per se; however, a modicum of patience, and a realisation of some of the things that have happened in the past, does.
The forums are relatively quiet at the moment and therefore it can take a while before a question gets answered; even at it's busiest, it can take some time before people get around to catching up on posts and being able to offer assistance.
The majority of our members are hobbyists, first and foremost, which means they are either struggling with their own projects, or are unable to get committed to something because they simply haven't got the time to spare for it; that's life, unfortunately!
And, as Harb has said, when someone new asks for assistance when there is little in the way of examples of their work, people can be wary of offering help because (and it has happened before) community members have had their fingers burned in the past offering their time and effort (to write or do VOs, all of which are given freely, but of course people have to give up that free time to do it), only to see nothing come of it and all that time and effort has ended up being wasted.
The adage "once burned, twice shy" has, unfortunately, been proved a truism more than once, and it has meant that new community members do get "circled" for a while before people approach them to offer help, just to see if they will actually see a project through to completion.
It's doubly hard for someone who is trying to get others to write scripts for them; a complete unknown, who may be the next Spielberg but equally could be a Uwe Boll behind the camera, wants someone to spend a lot of time writing something for them that may never get made. I'm sure you can see why people can be a little wary, can't you?
That's why a "portfolio", or at least some examples of previous projects you have been involved with, can sway people to jump onboard; if people see you're serious about getting a piece completed and have done so before, they are more likely to put up their hands to help.
I know it can be frustrating when you want to crack on and get something done and it's that one thing that's holding you back, but sometimes sitting back and waiting is the only thing you can do, as hard as it seems. Even long-time directors and community members don't get their requests filled immediately, no matter what their "standing" is!
The short films idea is probably the best action plan, to be honest; once people can see what you can do and you show folk how you do it, they will be a lot more likely to step up to the plate and help out.
Another option is to offer your other talents up for other directors; good at composing? People are always looking for muscians to score films. Good at voice acting? We can never have too many voice actors. Effects work? There's always someone wanting a "just so" special effect and welcome assistance. If you can write, try offering some scripts around for people or enter any of the scripting contests that are run periodically.
People often think they only have one "marketable talent" and are surprised once they start down the road of writing or acting, etc, that they are better than they thought, and enjoy it more, too.
And the pride you'll feel once you've managed to produce something people like will only give you more confidence to push yourself further and gain more experience, which in turn will lead to more people being willing to help out.
TMU does offer a bewildering array of skill which people can find available but, like most things, it does come with somewhat of a price tag attached; commenting on movies, offering help to others and generally getting involved in other projects and community events in general go a loooooong way to establishing someone in the filmic collective, and pay huge dividends further down the line. Being standoffish and somewhat abrasive only serves to alienate people and won't do your "rep" any good at all.
As a wise man once said "you will get out of this place what you are willing to put into it", and that is as true today as it was then.
I love how people can tell you to go ahead and ask for help but when you make threads asking for help, no one helps!

I think by "help", most people mean feel free to ask questions like, "how do you operation X in software Y" or "how do I do X in the tmu website" -- not "hey, can somebody write X number of full length screenplays for me". That would be "collaboration", and I would think collaborating on a full length screenplay would require having or building a relationship first no matter where you go.
Being rude probably isn't going to get you very far in finding collaborators here, or anywhere.

LOL!
I've just checked your other threads & there's help or advice or links...
apart from the Nude Mod Thread
(which you solved all by Yourself!)
& the 'Initial' Action Hero Thread...
You got Feedback on your 'I need Writers' thread & also the 'LA City Mod' thread..
Whats your problem...???
Sounds like the 'spoilt little Child' syndrome to me..
Maybe you need to reassess the way you reply to people & ask for help on this forum as your REPUTATION at this point is shaping up rather repugnantly.
On the other hand 'au revoir' if your out of here..

I am still planning on doing the film regardless. I'm all about making these fanfilm series.
I haven't responded in a few days because right at the moment, I'm working on a few trailers for the first film to sort of hype it up.
I believe that any fan film series based on Arnold is going to be awesome. I only want each film to be 90 minutes and I have actually made a 45 minute film before just from the movies game program but could never get VOs for the film. It took me 3 full days to crank the film out but I did crank it out. Unfortunately it's on my mom's computer so I can't get access to it.
I believe I can crank the animation for the film out in a week but the biggest problem I have right now is writing the script.
Once I can get the script written, everything else is a piece of cake. I think in order to get this script written faster, I'm going to study a few action scripts from simplyscripts.com and try to sort of take some stuff from those scripts and reword them to fit my own scripts. At least that way, I have something to work off of.
So I think I can make this film happen now just from the stuff I have on SE. So thanks for inquiring!

After I finish with the Jack Slater films, I wanna start on a film that is a sci-fi version of Bad Boys but set in a world of alien species. Think of alien police officers on another planet doing their thing. It would be an action/sci-fi/comedy. It's something I've wanted to do since I got Stunts and Effects. I will be pulling ideas from Bad Boys and Rush Hour. I think people will like this movie but I wanna crank out the Jack Slater films first or either alternate between the two film series.
I would say, do some small flicks. so people can see what you're about. Imagine you go to a studio exec and asked for money for a movie; but gave no evidnece of previous work. How would it work out?

Thanks!
I have been reading some alternate history stories lately and I found one that could be turned into an awesome sci-fi film.
If anyone wants to take a stab at it, search up White Star Jupitar. The story is really interesting.
I've also just started a batman movie but since I can't find the batman mask mod, I've substituted the mask for a punisher mask look over the batman suit. Maybe people will like it, maybe they won't but oh well. Also since there is no mask for robin that I can find either, Robin will remain maskless but hey it's a first attempt anyways. I've made other movies but it isn't feature length and I want to make feature length films as a way to show how serious I am about making movies.
Anyways, this movie is called Batman: Dark Immortal. I've already gotten a script for this which I am using. I've had to adjust it slightly in order to get it made with the movies game. I think it should be a great little animated movie. I've already got 3 minutes of the movie animated as of today. The script is currently 66 pages but I have a few other scripts and I may put them together to get to my 90 minute movie.
i've seen people do things with batman on this site where he's in full costume... why not trying to contact some of those people and find out if they have access to the masks you need

This the kind of Batman thing you're looking for? http://www.8eyedbaby.com/8eyedCM/content/displayMods.php?ModID=1602
Or this http://www.dcmodding.com/drupal/node/2216
I understand your frustration we have all been there. I've been here for far too long now :D but its still not simple. I remember wanting to create vast epics but just not getting the support I needed - its also pretty tricky moving from seeing your movies yourself and occasionally showing them to friends and family and moving to showing them online where people may not be so receptive. You might be surprised by responses you get when you do put out a film. Its all a learning curve, but I'm not going to pass judgement on your films before I see them.
I think you should take Killian's comments very seriously, although I do think reputation matters. The social elite here will probably not want to work with members 'lower down' if you know what I mean for the simple reason that they're good at what they do and get far too many requests as it is. However, you can be proved wrong on this front and you'd be surprised where being polite can take you. The side of reputation that matters more than 'how good your films are' is your social reputation. If you have a reputation for posting nice and helpful comments, being polite, patient and often watching and revieiwng other people's films then when you do ask people are far more likely to take an interest. We see dozens of threads asking for help from people we dont know and occasionally (less often than we'd like to) we'll take a look - but if there's a thread from someone we know we'll click it.
We've had people before on this site convinced they are the greatest thing since sliced bread (sliced bread would look like ordinary bread compared to them) and have never realised that they are but one fish in a pond. The more they trumped their own praises, the more self concerend they got, the less likely people would help them. Their (and I'm thinking of one guy in paticular that most people can probably guess) biggest mistakes? 1: Not listening when advice was offered 2: Making films that were too long (and we're talking 20 or 30 minuters here) for the story they were telling and the format they did it in 3: Rudeness 4: Terrible tribute movies (they can work and maybe yours will, (btw Batman has proved succesful so personally I'd run with a 15 minute version of that to get you started) but they usually don't. Write your own stories, people are much more receptive of that and you can make changes to plot lines where necessary that you might not with a tribute.)
Hope that helps. We'd really love for you to stick around so why don't you read what people have said to you and really take it to heart. Breathe, make a short movie, release it and observe the reaction. But most impotantly: get involved in the community! Watch movies, listen to the radio, post in threads - just don't over do it.
Al

It would be cool if someone made a movie off of an anne rice novel. I was thinking about making "The Vampire Lestat" because that's a pretty cool book. or maybe another novel. Anyone like or read any anne rice books?

Well I seem to be having more progress with my batman film than with the other things. I'm 10 minutes into the film already, just filmed my first fight scene.
So far the story goes, Dick Greyson wants to rid himself of the robin persona to become a darker sidekick and strike his own fear into his enemies, thus Nightwing is born. Bruce is not happy with the change. Main Villain thus far is The Joker.
That's all I got so far, that has taken up 10 minutes of film time. Will keep you updated on the development. Special Thanks to wackyal3000 for providing the link for the batman costume I am now using. I still don't have a batmobile so in place of the batmobile, I have a bat-jet I'm using. Batman is flying everywhere in this film.
I have a script I'm working off of and it is turning out quite nicely. I hope to get this film done within the year.
Thanks for all the help guys, I know it is hard for someone new to get started here but now I'm finally off and running. I couldn't have done it without you guys.

The best thing to do now would be to create a Production Thread in Movies Movies Movies and leave this thread alone.
