Hya Peeps!
I know this is a year away - so you have plenty of time to save-up for the trip.
I'm spearheading The Machinima Meet-Up 2012 at Siggraph in Los Angeles next August 5 - 9.
My goal is to get as many people from our community, iClone, Moviestorm, The Movies, Second Life, Muvizu, DAZ, Poser, you name it - the gang at TMU and TMOA- to participate. Many of us have worked together over the years and become friends - so let's meet in person! What a party it would be!

Count me IN (tentatively, of course... but I love the idea and will try my best.)

This is something I would very seriously consider. One year gives a good amount of time to plan and save and such. Would love to meet Biggsy and perhaps some of the old schoool folks and maybe stop at Jases house to raid the liquor cabinet and urinate on the lawn. And see LA. And Siggraph as well. Im drunk and excited.

I was thinking about starting a drug habit.. so I may strongly consider this... even though you did say something about friends which I am lacking but will make up for by driving a gaudy big vehicle really fast for the news choppers!

I'd pay to see that...
I love the idea of a meet up. :)
Do you know if they will be sponsoring any machinima specific contests or events? I probably wouldn't be able to make the full week so would want to time my trip to coincide with anything machinima related.

Too early to tell rgr. I'm just getting the word out so people will start thinking about making the trip. I believe Reallusion has a booth there - not sure about other companies.

I would like to urinate on Jase's lawn too. But he probably thinks I'm too old to do it. :tt2:

We'll pick a spot as time progresses. Ricky is going to help me with the arrangements - since he's a local and I don't plan on peeing on HIS lawn. :fuk2:
Ricky Martin? wow! awesome :)

If for some reason I manage to hit the lottery or, an even slimmer chance, my boss gives me a pay raise, I would try to be there. No guarantees though since I might scare other people into not attending. LOL.

Are there any plans for machinima meet-ups in following years, for those of us who can't make it to the 2012 meet-up?

I think if it is done the a Theater should be contracted for a private showing.
that way those who attend can see thier film and the best movies on the big screen! sure it will cost money but if all who attend chip in it should be a spectacular event

I think if such a 'meet up" event did happen, the last thing I'd wanna do is sit and watch movies. I think the "meeting" people, many of which we have known for years online, would be the fun part, not watching films in a theater.
just my 2 cents, but I wanna drink and make merry with people and do real life interactions and stuff.

I don't think this is a bad idea. Maybe for just one night though, for about 2 hours. Definitely not the focus of the meet-up. But it would be nice to see some movies on an actual big screen, with red curtains and popcorn. It's something to consider.
2 SIDE QUESTIONS:
1. Do we know yet what's going on for all 5 days? Why is this meet-up almost a week long?
2. Can people under 18 or 21 attend? If minors like myself, MilkyBarKid, jakechief or others want to come, can they?

Yea, I agree with this. If I can make it out (Im hoping I can make it work), I plan on seeing LA, TMU folk and Siggraph roughly in that order. Machinima movies I can see any time. Its not a bad idea but I personally have other goals. That said, if it happened I would probably be there. Heh.

The meet-up will only be one day - probably an afternoon and most likely at a restaurant or bar near the Siggraph event. This is an informal event for adults. If you are under 18 you need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. And if we do meet in a bar you won't be allowed in due to state laws.
It's a YEAR AWAY. I don't have any details for you. Right now it is simply AN IDEA. As the time approaches NEXT YEAR I will post the meeting time and place if enough people are interested. If many people are NOT interested it will be just me meeting with my personal pals from online - which is how this whole thing got started to begin with.

This sounds cool. I like this approach a lot. My hope is that the one day (or evening) is something I can attend by flying in, attending, and flying out ... with some cheapo flight and no hotel fee :) It would be very cool to fly without luggage of any kind (I've never done that before!)
Oh, and for location, if it's at all possible, can we prefer a non-bar setting? That would allow minors to attend with parents, and would make non-drinkers like myself more comfortable :) Obviously, when the time draws nearer, we'll take what we can get though.

The decision on where to meet will be up to the majority of people who are attending. I'm not arranging this.

I think it would be cool if some sort of manchinima event (a festival) can be arranged around the meeting too, but that's just my daydream...
In any case, I really wish Sherwin and would be able to attend. But alas, I'm photographophobic.

LOL! If my schedule next year is anything like my schedule right now I'm not going to be able to make this anyways. So you good folks go ahead and plan whatever you want! This started out as simply an idea on my part. I'm working 12 hours a day and barely have time to answer emails. :56:

I heard Cathy will not be attending this year. However, I have been hitting up mrsbiz every so often since the idea came up and I think we are going to make the LA trip happen this year as part of a 2 week LA/San Fran vacation. I'm excited and I'm hoping to see some particular folk in LALA land and indeed to see LA itself.

Alright, since I have some money from my new job, I might be able to make it. Put me down as a potentially Yes, I might make it.
Sounds fun to me.
