....do we need more categories at TMU? Do we need sub-categories (under mystery a noir category, detective category, etc. for example) or is it really necessary?

yes.
The Navigation on the left should reflect all important links, like to TMOA, FAQ, terms of site use and basic help threads.
The forums threads should have:
A Modding area
A New release area
A poster, overlay etc request area
A help area for technical questions
A new members area
A super secret world domination area..err wait wrong forum. Scratch that.
A "non machinema" area for talk about making real films, or such. Not to talk about Hollywood made movies, but a palce for example that would fit Bricks and GeorgeLocus and JKWs venture into real film
A contest area
A collaboration area
thats what comes to mind now.

Crap, I mis-read the post.
A link to the forums here and perhaps a link to TMOA and the Chatroom.
Also, a updated way of linking to a terms of use faq tailored for new users and a content restriction listing like faq in those terms (i.e no clips of House or Movies)

I'm always wary of having too many genres.
I mean a film is a film is a film. Must we label ourselves in that way?
Maybe a label genre for AND's YouTube polemic on labeling

I agree, what we have now is quite okay!
I always thought the most important thing was to have music videos and trailers/tech-demos as genres....
so I'm happy with it as it is!

Agreed that TMU has enough categories.

Actually, though you did misread the original post, I think we can expand the question to the forums here...
The "Now Playing on TMUnderground" subforum worked pretty well - give me a tree of where you think additional forums should go - some should obviously be subs of the Movies Movies Movies forum, but others might be better as full forums (new members, for example) and others might be better subs under, perhaps, a new forum altogether.
We've got a few more days to play with this before we open the doors, and I'd like to be pretty much set when we open (knowing that there will be more suggestions - I just knocked what we have now out off the top of my head while getting this online - forums are not my bag, man... ;))

Under Movies Movies Movies..we should have just 2 subs. New Releases and In Production
Under Cinematic Ramblings Just change that title to Production Help Then we have:
Industry 101 (which I posted)
Film Scoring & Music
VO's
Overlays and Posters
Thats my 2 cents!!

I like Cinematic ramblings... would leave that as it is, and rather add the help sections as sub boards to Movies Movies Movies.
Maybe something like "Find Voiceactors", "Find Modders"... or something like that; for music and artwork, too....
And yep, "In Production" and a "Released" sub forums would be nice!

...of trying to keep the number of different forums down - if we've got 20 different forums, it only makes people check 20 different places for what they're looking for.
Have added a production help subforum under Movies Movies Movies. Rather than break it out into VOs, mods, music, etc. I figure (for now) let's keep it all together, so people looking for help (or people with the skills to help) can look in one place. If it starts becoming bloated or confusing, we can always break out into separate forums and move some posts.
I also would like to keep Cinematic Ramblings as it is - a place for people to talk about all kinds of movies, moviemaking, etc. Personally I think it's a good place for Industry 101, since Jase and AND cross all the lines (so to speak) with their advice - we can make an I-101 subforum, though I'd guess Jase and AND would prefer to work in one thread - or maybe not - an I-101 forum where people could ask their questions in a thread and the dynamic duo could pop in and address each question/comment seperately might also work - it's up to them.
But please, if you think we're missing something here, or my decisions are as half-assed as usual, challenge me...bring it on! ;)
