My Favorite place for sound effects, field recordings, sound inspiration or to just close my eyes and picture myself in a bar in tokyo or strolling through cheerio london. I have spent hours just searching through all the sound files as the search mechanism is pretty good and the random sounds are fun.

Yeah, I use freesound.org quite a bit - it's not always the best place for some odd, specific sound, but for a lot of things, it's perfect.
I've especially liked some of the ambience pieces, where somebody records outdoor street sounds, etc. for 15-20 minutes. Really nice to get rid of that dead studio silence in the bustling city.

Nice one thanks,
I like this one, the samples are very unique especially the buttons and the horror sfx.

Make sure to read the FAQ forum before you start browsing - it's free to use FreeSound's files, but there are rules you must follow, including crediting the person who created the sound file in your movies.

You also must register with a valid e-mail account, and unfortunately, they won't accept Hotmail addresses. This is because Hotmail has been known to delete the account activation e-mails before they even arrive in your inbox (or Junk Mail folder for that matter).

So, next question: can anyone name a similar free e-mail service that one can use to access FreeSound?
Thanks.

Sign up to gmail. Better in every way. And yes, its good form to cite your sources whether its a sound effect, song, vo, prop or the like.
