View Full Version : The TM Rescue Project

After some discussion among the staff, we've decided to take JazzX's lifeboat project (http://community.lionhead.com/forums/thread/3215082.aspx) a step further.
And we want your suggestions!
We've created a TMU account called tmrescuer - all members of the TMU staff will be uploading films they feel should not be lost when TMO sinks beneath the waves in 24 days. These films will be put in a special channel, with full credit to the original studio, etc. If the original studio contacts us and requests that their movie be removed, we'll do so immediately.
What we'd like from the community here are your suggestions - links on TMO would be appreciated, so we don't have to go searching in the imperfect search engine there.
If you have movies saved on your hard drive that are no longer on TMO, and you think they should be saved, please PM myself or another staff member and we'll work out a way for you to get them to us.
I'll be real upfront about one thing - the decision as to whether a particular film should or should not be "rescued" rests with the TMU staff. Your suggestions are suggestions, and we'll ultimate decide (since we're doing the heavy lifting...LOL). Rest assured that we'll be discussing all of the suggestions, as we do everything else, so your picks will get a fair shot.
We're already looking at the movies we either have on our hard drives, or can grab from TMO before the end, so the work has begun.
Let's all make sure that none of the gems of the past three years are lost.

Ok, I will submit the entire list from Movies Worth Seeing Thread. Where should I send it? Or shall I post it here? Or if you prefer I could help upload stuff in some way. Just let me know.

Is it possible to get this stickied in the Movies Movies Movies section as well? I had a time finding it...eh, either way.
I wonder if Sam or Woody have a list of all the past HotPicks? Could be worth asking (but not by me as they have never once responded to any pms from me).
TMU Members who should upload their old movies
Trashman (uterefson, praise the lord, 10 commandments, time warped, last supper, funk you)
6HM - I never had a chance to see any of his tmo flicks. Ode to Meat perhaps?
StokeStudios (Autkaman, Vigilante)
Nahton (BeBiBo Bananaco, Punk the Zombie)
MildHeadWound (Leprecauns Bride, Tales of terrible Cinematography, Love in a Jealous Rage)

If they cannot upload them or dont see this thread/PMs then I hope these movies get uploaded.

I have to suggest Towelie's "The Mad Professor's Dance Banana". If not for it's autouristic direction and brilliant plot, then certainly for it's impact on the community. Hell, I remember a time when it was the hot topic on TMOA...and who the hell can forget that opening theme song? I think that tune has been permanently welded into my brain.
To let this 'Ed Wood-esque' masterpiece slip into the the cracks of silicon hell would be a crime against humanity.

Perhaps it would be simpler to stage a real life TM rescue with a few of us dressed in black fatigues assailing the LH HQ in the dead of night to spirtit away the TM server, the modder info and the incriminating photos of woody and sam. We could get uber to play the Lee marvin role (he has some experience right?), DNR in the John Cassavettes role (though Jase has been doing a pretty good brooklyn accent lately), Norrie in the Telly Savalas role (dirty perv), and me as badass Jim Brown (ok maybe not).
I forsee many pitfall-esque/minesweeper dangers set up by the activision/Microsoft guard dog but nothing we couldnt handle eh...

Jimbo did join TMU, but he hasn't uploaded any movies (though he has 4 views, so maybe he has private videos).
I see him on Skype fairly regularly, so I'll give him as holler next time I see him - he's still in China as far as I know, and who knows if he can access the site for uploads, and at what speeds - if he wants to put them up himself, I'll encourage it - if he can't, I can upload them and manually move them to his account.

As we were a wee bit side tracked there, I wanted to emphasise this remarkable task slightly.
And say a HUGE thanks to Riley for taking the time to do this. You kinda know that if any of us has 2Tb of web space he would include the films as well.
So: thanks Rileyman. It's much appreciated.

Wow, this is really nice, Riley - thanks for doing it, and thanks Norrie for the hosting space! This is indeed a big part of TMO history (and as I'm lazy by nature, I'm glad I don't have to save my reviews all by myself). :)

I'm sure you'll all be thrilled to know that I've now passed movie ID 90000, which means the comments for The Ultimate Showdown have been rescued. :ninja:
Heh. Oddly enough, although Ultimate Showdown has more reviews, StevenKreg's original King Kong 1940 has more text overall in the comments.
Edit: Almost forgot -- RonH's review of Legend of Sleepy Hollow almost broke the little crawler program. :gun_bandana:
Last time I checked, Ultimate Showdown (http://movies.lionhead.com/movie/88471) had gone "glitched" again. Does your crawler program have a means to get around that? (Not that I care too much about U.S.'s reviews, I'm just curious.)
Oh, and does the crawler also get Offline movie's reviews? (Guessing 'Yes' as you seem to be doing it by movie number.)
Great work to all involved, btw. I, for one, appreciate it a great deal!!

Please bear in mind that some people who have been approached don't want their movies uploaded by anyone else to TMU, and we are of course respecting that choice.

Glitched and/or offline don't seem to be affected. The movie details and reviews get stored in a JavaScript file -- those are what my crawler is gathering.
And it's not really a whole lot of work. It just sits there running in the background while I do other stuff. ;)
Edit: If anyone wants any offline or glitched movies saved, I may be able to grab them using the same crawler. Just send me the movie ID and I'll give it a try. No guarantees, but it's worked for a couple so far.

There is the embed code for Yamimarik's Redemption- my first VO film.
Also, go here to go to his studio page and download and reupload on to TMU all of his films- even use the embed codes*.
*The embed codes will be useless come the 5th, so you must redownload them with Firefox or the Realplayer option and then reupload them- it's stupid, I know, but it works. Especially get the 'Clock of Death' and Space Bounty Hunters movies.

This rescue is for films from filmmakers who are no longer active. Yami is active, a member of TMU, and has uploaded See You In Hell - if you feel he should upload other films of his, you might suggest it to him.

Here here! Good stuff Rileyman :cowboy:
Just so happens I went throguh my movies (on and off) and wrote all the details by hand (except the reviews themselves) lol - what can I say? I'm a sentimental guy :P

I've uploaded the following to my studio thingy:
Samyhouse:
.Killers.com
.Earth
.A Darker Thriller
.And Dark Thriller
And for Nemesisbeta, I've uploaded his high-quality sleeper-hit series 'Origins of War'- as great of a Sci-Fi as Enigma and EDS Destiny in terms of story- but not so much the editing
They can all be viewed here:
http://www.tmunderground.com/user/87/videos/public
(http://www.tmunderground.com/user/87/videos/public)
If someone can tell me a channel to put these in, that'll be great with a link.

Just for clarification, as was responded to you in the other thread -
This thread is for recommending movies you'd like to see "saved" from TMO. We have requested that only the official account designated for this project on TMU be used for uploading the movies.

I'll try to assemble a quick list rescued movies tonight or tomorrow if I can find the time.

Just a quick bump to remind folk there are only TWO DAYS remaining before LH pull the plug (I don't doubt it will vanish with superhuman speed on 5th December), so I recommend "rescue first, ask questions later", to be honest.
If the film maker in question really doesn't want to rescue the film, it can always be pulled down afterwards, but if it's a potential (or even definate) classic, then save it and worry about the issues later, says I...

Moving post by request:
I'd like uploaded these (I don't have their studio page links), but somebody, for the love of God, please someone save these films. Please someone download them (and store their informations too) and reupload them to TMU. Thank you. I did it once, but I don't have permission by Jase or Ken, so please do it someone.

If you like those, or GAW or Odyssey, then you'll love this mini-series- it's even been hailed by Rik_Vargard, Chris62 and Captain Strider when it first came out:
"Origins of War"
"Origins of War- Derelict"
"Origins of War- Part II- Surprise"
"Origins of War- The Hunt"
"Lonely Memories [Origins of War Series]"
"Origins of War- A Final Command"

Actually a big hand goes to the primary uploaders, who really put a ton of work into grabbing and uploading movies - theBiz and Dulci.
We'll still have a few more movies appearing in the tmrescuer account - I have a few on my hard drive that I wanted to save for posterity.
But most of the credit for rescuing 265 TMO films from oblivion goes to Biz, Dulci, and the othermoderators who helped out with the uploading.

Excellent films all - they're all in my archive.
I have also managed to reunite Samy with the English-subtitled version of "Killers.com".
In other news, I see to my horror that Steven Kreg's "King Kong" was not deemed fit to be rescued, the first great The Movies film.
It was made in November 2005, just after The Movies was released, and it was outstanding.
At a time when "The Baggage Boy" was at the height of its hilariousness, someone dared to make a real movie using all the tools at their disposal. And it was amazing.
How nobody saw fit to rescue that, I don't know.
Well I did (more by luck than judgement).
I will donate all three of Steven Kreg's "King Kong" films to the Tmrescuer account if that's allowed.
I will, of course, contact Steven beforehand, per the policy of this website.

As Steven has a TMU forum account the assumption was made that a) he is aware of TMU and b) he would decide which of his movies he wants to upload onto the movie site.

Was just checking out some of the rescued TMO movies.
Now I know TMU doesn't have any kind of official rating system for movies and such but what might be the chances that TMU come up with their own form of the Oscars?
I mean, all the tools and information is incorporated into the website already; Viewer ratings, number of viewings, number of downloads etc.
Of course I understand it would be a little uneven with Killian being the production machine that he is. :)

The Ollies that just took place covered all the movies that had previously been on TMO (as they covered all the films uploaded in the last 12 months); in fact, a couple of the winners were old TMO films that people remembered fondly and voted for).

Actually, we do have our own version, it is called the Ollies and we just had an awards show a couple weeks ago to cover the first year of TMUnderground. The next Ollies will cover all films between July of 2009 and July of 2010.
One a different note, I added three of my early films to the TMO Rescued Movies Channel.
