View Full Version : Problems with Prince Logan

Frosty and Rileyman have both posted that they are having problems viewing Prince Logan & The Dragon (link in my sig for reference).
Riley says..."I'm having the same issue as frosty... Surprise [:O] It's a tiny bit better playing it in IE, but it's still more like watching a slideshow. Even the audio's choppy. For whatever reason, my computer is using almost 100% CPU trying to play it."
Now, I know that this movie is uploaded in better quality than the other ones I have on the site, but I'm not sure if that's the reason why they would be having trouble. I can't imagine that this is the largest size movie file either of them has tried to watch.
If I did something wrong, I'd like to know.

I don't think you've done something wrong, Dulci - and the movie played perfectly for me!
Maybe it has something to do with the time - meaning timezones. When I play movies in my daylight hours (mornings) they play much smoother and load much faster. Umm, I guess what I really mean is traffic - loads of people online and playing movies=stuttering movies?
i had problems, day and night. Maybe it got tired travelling down here?:):D

What sisch said, but with more technical bits.
With streaming and progressive downloading the film starts to play when an algorithm decides that enough time has passed that the playing will not catch up with the stream.
With larger films (in Mb, not time) the stream takes longer.
If the playhead catches up with the download bar (the bar goes from grey to blue) it stops or stutters.
What I tend to do for all films is hit play, then pause, until the whole bar is blue. Then everything is grand.
P.S. Just watched it to check. Ahhhh, bless :D

It played fine for me, although initially when I clicked the link, the movie page appeared but with no 'player' controls (in other words, I couldn't start it, etc). When I reselected the link, it came up OK...
OK, so it's not the same thing, but I thought I should mention it anyway... :)
I tried what norrie said, still had the same problem.

Curiouser and curiouser cried Alice.
I suppose that leaves codecs. Correct me if I'm wrong Dulci, but I think this was edited and exported from Ulead? Was it the first time using this?
Mind you, if it was a conversion error to Flash, I suppose everyone would have the problem, no matter the browser.
Can I somehow blame Microsoft? Works great for me in Safari and Firefox.
I'm assuming that Explorer users have to install flash player codecs? Maybe that could be it?
Can I stop asking questions? Who knows?

I didn't have a problem with it.
Could be the flash version on the computer playing it - the encoder on the site encodes in 768K bps with audio at 22050 - had it at the full 44100, but was trying to solve Bigg's audio problems, and I don't think it's that noticeable a difference (can always change it back)
Does it happen at any time of day, and all videos? Or just the one?

This seems more an issue with compatibility of certain machines, the Flash Player, and the video size. I downloaded the FLV file and had a look. The video was exported in HD quality (1280x720). Might want to use a bit smaller 16:9 size. In my version of VideoStudio, I have an export option that says "NTSC DV 16:9" that would work well for TMU.
HD quality shouldn't be a problem (seems isolated to the Flash Player on certain machines); but it's also not really needed when uploading to a streaming video site.

Ah, thanks Riley. I was randomly guessing on the export option to use. I'll check for that one when I'm home!
The teaser for Rinse & Repeat was also done through Ulead, but I believe I used a different export option for that one.
I updated to the latest flash 'drivers' and still the same problem.

Riley rules once more!
Having had to reduce 1280x 720 myself, I'm not surprised the certain machines struggled. That is BIG!
Remember Dulci, size isn't everything :cool

The export setting you used for the Rinse & Repeat teaser worked just fine. :)

Story of my life Dulci. More "happy ever after" than "once upon a time" though.

If you want to put it up again, just let me know - upload it, I'll move the comments to the new movie ID, and delete the old movie.

Okay, that was a little extreme, but since I mentioned in my review that I wanted you to be my mommy, I guess I can't say anything.... ;)
Just PM me when it's up and I'll make the transfer - will only take a couple of minutes.
