I would really suggest you have a look at these posts on this thread:-

Which was written specifically to help new filmmakers get off the ground.

Overall, the following is the best advice I can give as a new starter to the filmmaking community.

In this instance, look at the project you are looking to do.

1) What’s the story about? Well, you have outlined that already in basic form. What you need now is to sit down and work out exactly WHAT the story is about, where the story starts, what happens and how it ends.

2) Who are the principal characters? The father and daughter, for starters. Who else? Are there going to need to be extras? Other subsidiary/secondary characters? This should grow out of completing the step above.

3) What do you need in order to tell this story? For this, I mean what mods do you need? Check out the websites on the list of links to the left and look for the items you require.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for after looking (and people will know if you haven't :001_tt2:), THEN is the time to ask modders, etc, for their assistance; always try to find or create what you need yourself first, as that shows that you are willing to make the effort to complete your project

Here is probably the best place to mention this; you would probably be surprised by the number of new directors who have asked for custom items, music, mods, etc; got modders, musicians, voice artists to provide their time for free; who have then disappeared without completing the movie; and as you can imagine, this doesn’t go down well with the community. Thus, a lot of experienced members won’t even entertain a request from a new director, until they have seen that this guy/gal able to see a project through to completion first... which makes sense, when you think about it).

4) Once you have your initial idea fleshed out, your characters, your mods (or list of mods), THEN is the time to ask for the assistance you need (if you still need it; you could be surprised to find that once you have your "plan", you don't need as much as you thought). Bear in mind that most of the community (especially modders) are very, very busy, and won’t be able to, nor will they want to, drop what they are working on to help out someone they know nothing about. It might be that you have to “make do” with what you have to start with but trust me; people can soon tell if you have the potential, and will come forward to assist once they know you are going to be around for the long haul.

Don’t let this sound as if there is a massive mountain in the way, or that there is negativity towards new filmmakers; there isn't (despite what some would have you believe). People are and will be prepared to assist you if YOU show that you are willing to put the effort into your project; if you don't, then how can anyone expect anyone else to do so?

A lot of the above you can handle yourself quite easily; it just means that you have to put a little more effort into it than you originally might have thought. But seeing the end result and the reception it gets will make all the effort worthwhile!

Hopefully this is handy to you, but the biggest pointer I can give is:- try first; if you fail, ask for help, but not to try beforehand is doing yourself a disservice.
