Well folks at long last its back! To those of you who dont know, this is a little comp I started last spring, the rookie challenge known as: NEWBFEST! This was an open competition for us members who had a year or less in the machinima making world. It turned out to be a fantastic way of getting OUR films recognized. And perhaps more importantly, a new way to meet, greet and collaborate with the veterans in the community. Lots and lots of folks got really involved, new and old alike. I finished 3rd in the judging with my 1st TEAM X episode starring: Goofparade and SnakeEater42. And I really learned alot from it. 2ND place honors went to Torqual for his scary flick: Lost in the Forest. Our winner was a deserving one, from TMU's own Piotrtheman came: Addicted, a soul searching story about a couple torn apart by addiction. But, there were well over a dozen entries, and ALL of them were truly worthy. Here's a look at the whole extravaganza: http://community.lionhead.com/forums/1/2909429/ShowThread.aspx
Ive already established a bit of detail for us. We have 1 judge so far, a legend in the community, the one and only Roger. His donations to the community will be sung in bard's tales for many a moon. One prize has also been established and my friend and respected filmmaker Chris62has offered to do special effects in the winner's follow up movie. Last year among the prizes was voiceover by the incomparable Goofparade, and over a million VC was donated by vet TMOers and given to Piotrtheman! I hope he spent it on wine and women. Obviously, VC does us no good this time around (did it then?) I havent decided alot of other details I thought I'd leave some of that to YOU guys. Also it will give us some time to establish more concrete rules and other prizes to flow in. How many judges? 3 at the most ( PM me if you would like to judge) Here's another couple of sticklers; With the influx of other machinima artists from other sites we have very little way of knowing how long you've been making movies, so have some class. Deadline? Well, like I said I'll be a year old on March 14th so, no later than that I guess. Length of movie? No time limit. Also, we would prefer you make a flick not released yet, so as to add to the challenge. So there it is, lets go! All Newbz welcome here....

You all may remember that good TMO film I made awhile back that almost got 3rd place on the charts, then TMO crashed. Well, the film was Der Lauernde Damon (http://www.tmunderground.com/watch/211726dcce4c0e971e21/Der-Lauernde-Damon) and it was a hit. No I'm not entering this. I'm entering the sequel! It doesn't have a name yet but you can help by going here (http://www.tmoaradio.com/vb/showthread.php?p=16315#post16315).

Well, Werecool I see that you you joined TMO about a week before the "cutoff" date, but we WILL make an exception in this case, and let you still be considered a NooB, welcome to Newbfest.

You "remember" eh? You really must have spent your million VC prize on wine and women, because I also remember you beating us in the competition. Hopefully you join again so we can get another shot at ya!

And just in; Sparky has also offered up his voice talents in the winners' follow-up picture. If this keeps up we'll have the success of the 1st Newbfest, MAYBE BETTER! Thanks Sparky.

In case you missed the Ken & Roger show Sunday, Ken said that he'd be willing to include a t-shirt to the winner!!! A tangible prize folks. He suggested that WE come up with a design and he would get er done. See, it's already turning into a killer contest! So bust out some "Newbfest" designs, and get them movies made noobiez! Rock on K&R, rock on...:punk:

And it keeps getting better Killian told me to post this:
"If it's worth anything, I'll throw my hat in the ring to help the winner in a scripting or technical capacity on their next project... once I get all my current projects off the board :P"
Thanks Killian , and yeah its worth something thats for damn sure, man! Great prizes again this time around, you'd have to be a danged fool of a noob to not join in...

Welcome Act3S24! So that means 4 are officially in at this point, and THATs got the makings of a good Newbfest, but we fully expect more to file in soon! So lets set the official deadline at Saturday March 14th 2009. (My 1 year TMO/U anniversary) Cool? Incidentally we have only one judge at this point (Roger) and we of course need at least one more, so PM me if ya wanna judge.
ALL NEWBS with roughly 1 year of machinima experience are welcome to join this fun filled extravaganza!

Well everyone I regret to inform you that I'll be pulling out of the Fest this time around. Unforeseen circumstances will prohibit me from making a quality film in time. Also after I finish my current batch of voiceovers its doubtful I'll be doing any for awhile. Id be a second judge in our comp, but I'm in at least one of the probable entries. So in the meantime keep on filmin on, Noobz, as this little shindig is still accepting entries, of course. And now that I'm out you may still have a shot at this thing!! :glare:

It's a shame that there aren't more entrants. But I guess that there are few people NEWLY buying The Movies and starting now and, to be honest, those that do will try to connect to the TMO server and think that TM is abandonware. The chance of them finding their way here and specifically to this thread is low.
I wonder how we can promote the competition more and get a few more entrants. I am assuming that there is likewise a thread on the Lionhead forum? What about other Machinima sites?
Anyway - if I can help at all in any capacity, let me know.
I am working on my own project at the moment but I bought The Movies 10 months ago and thus am not a noob!

02-09-2009, 01:14 AM
Well, I entered it last time just a few days after I joined the community and that was because JohnnyEx rated a few of my movies and recommended me to check out his thread in the forums. Maybe we should just post this thread's url in our reviews of new releases to attract newer members?

This is of course everybody's comp, and it sucks I'm not gonna be able to enter. However there is definately more we could do to spruce it up. Whatever we can do to keep the newest of the new artist involved, cuz that's what this all started with, was trying to rapidly introduce each other to noob and old alike.
Without help and support, I would've been too overwhelmed by some of the awesomeness, I saw during the early days of my initial foray into machinima. And yeah, maybe posting a blurb in yer comments would entice those that havent made their way here yet. Lotsa great ideas, and I agree this could be so much more. Perhaps we should extend the deadline, or create a channel like Dulci just did, or just reformat the whole thing, or leave it the way it is....or, or or........
Its up to everyone, and either way we have some cool prizes (see the 1st pages) And a few entries comin' that are gonna kick ass. Rock on NOOBZ!

The deadline of last year's comp was around May wasn't it? Let's allow enough time...
I think that starting a 'New Directors' channel is a great idea. I nominate JohnnyEx to do it!!
I will also link back to this thread in any comments I leave. Good thinking.
Ultimately, this competition is a great idea because, ultimately, new directors need some encouragement and just want people watching their productions. This is a way to achieve it.

Ahhh guys it pains me to say it, but I'm going to have to drop out of the comp.
Due to the fact that I ACTUALLY landed a full cast for a live action project I'm heading up, my focus has been pulled away from Sacrosanct over the past month.
I've been trying to cram the past few days, but it's just not going to happen :(
I apologize if this causes some sort of problem for any reason. In any case, thanks for putting this on Johnny! Something tells me I'm not going to have a lot of time for TM over the next year, as I'm about to start college. If so, will I still be eligible next year?
BTW, awesome entry Act3! I liked it a lot. Man, Moviestorm is becoming mighty intriguing, with those DOF controls and whatnot.
Good luck all!

Also~ I've been really busy and my "new" piece of shit computer doesnt cooperate, can someone update the actual entries for us? And if you should release, go ahead and update that list as well.
