This years RL contest involves their new physics toolbox and Im hoping to get at least one entry (and possibly more) in before the deadline (end of this month). The physics toolbox has many forces or structures you can use to move your props around from bombs and push forces to robotic claws and 4wd vehicle props. You can read more about the toolbox here.

First off I needed an idea. After a couple of bouts of brainstorming in my handy dandy...notebook (sorry, blues clues reference) I had a list of roughly 20 ideas ranging from silly (a canyon crossing ferry that is propelled by explosive devices) to more realistic (a working port container crane). I settled on silly for my first attempt.

The idea for the canyon ferry is a cooling container in the front which holds the explosive devices (lets call them bombs). A mechanical claw will retrieve the bombs and place them on a conveyor belt. The conveyor belt will convey the bombs to the back of the ferry and into a firebox where they will explode propelling the ferry along a rope/pole that traverses the canyon.

Here is my initial design in sketchup (the seats are from the warehouse, everything else is mine).




Im still missing the claw mechanism and the conveyor belt but they will be added soon. Also missing the canyon (its a default terrain in clone), the rope and the ability to make the ferry slide on the rope. Iclone physics are not easy but after about a week of watching tutorials and reading tutorials I think I am getting somewhere. Stay tuned for more....

P.S. Urbex is on hold till I finish at least one entry.
